The election is really flying under the radar here in Forsyth County because none of the local races are interesting.  I expect this is going to be very low turnout.

Low turnout probably helps Barrow if it become a referendum on abortion rights

Yeah I would agree with this. The fact that it's not being nationalized is likely to work in Barrow's favor theoretically

Also means Hannah Blythyn, who Gething fired for ‘leaking’, might end up with a deciding vote, if Plaid and the solitary Lib Dem aren’t willing to bail him out. Guess he’s found himself his very own Ash Regan!

She remains part of the Labour Group and a confidence vote would obviously be a whipped matter and to vote against the government in one would be career ending (she has no profile). It isn't the same sort of situation at all.

Plaid were only ever going to remain in this rather odd little arrangement until the new electoral system was approved (and have been signalling as such quite clearly for a while), because their leader is on the party's right-wing and was never comfortable with the arrangement to start with. You need to be careful with media coverage of devolved politics in Wales, most of it isn't at all neutral.

One thing to also note is that Israel is less secular than it used to be. More Israelis are Haredim, and even the Ashkenazi are more religious now than they collectively were a generation ago. Even the young Israelis are more observant, which makes then even more different than the mostly secular American young Jewish community.

This is a case of the largely white, male House GOP leadership playing fast and loose with the rules, and then accusing women of color of being disruptive and hysterical after they've pushed them too far.

Crockett and Green both represent the worst of our government, and I'll throw in AOC, Ilhan Omar, Tlaib, Gaetz, and Boebert as well. This is one of the worst things to come out of the Trump era, and unfortunately has infected both sides of the aisle. Completely eschew dignity and professionalism and in favor of bombast, ad hominem attacks, and theatrics. Politics isn't supposed to be entertainment, it should be boring. Because actually getting things done is not exciting - it's heavily procedural and tedious. Unfortunately, certain members of government don't seem to be there to actually get anything done but rather make a name for themselves. They couldn't make it in show biz so instead they ran for office.

MTG is a trashy grifter who I still can't decide if she actually believes half the stuff she says or if it's just to grift the lowest common denominator of voters. Crockett, OTOH, is a very nasty, mean-spirited person with zero respect for decorum or decency and also is a butcherer of the English language. Watching the two of them go out it is like watching two s-l-u-t-s on a VH1 reality show get in a drunked brawl. They're both idiots and an embarrassment to their districts and need to GTFO of Washington and let the adults get back to governing.

Obnoxious both-sidesism.

Typical democrat. Got your head so far up your behind that you scoff at any critiques of your party. Crockett is trash. Pure and simple. No respect for decorum or decency, nor does she strike me as intelligent.

AOC literally asked the chair to demand an apology on Crockett’s behalf as should have happened under the rules of congressional decorum. They were denied.

Republicans refused to follow decorum in each turn of the interaction.

I agree with this.

I don't really subscribe to this concept but I could be convinced that 2024 will be a poisoned chalice election in the short term for each party.

Unfortunately, I see Biden's second term going like Bush's, setting Republicans up for a really good night in 2028, and hopefully with Trump out of the picture.

But I think the greater risk is for Republicans if Trump wins. I think voters will eventually hit a breaking point with him that will severely harm the GOP for years to come. I think that includes Trump attempting some sort of power grab late in his term, but failing miserably because he no longer has enough popular or institutional support to pull it off.

No European country can truly be the "most similar" to the US because none of them have the legacy of being a frontier and a settled nation in the way that the Americas and Australia were.

To previous posters' point, Brazil is a much better answer here than any of the European countries mentioned.

As mainline Protestant denominations and Roman Catholicism fail to attract as many would-be priests and ministers, MDivs will decline.

A better question would be "Why is there a priest/minister shortage?" for these denominations, and there are plenty of good answers to that question.
