Considering that I've heard that even human trafficking goes on in the Silk Road (as well as other unsavory stuff), yeah, good riddance.

Well, I have to say, this makes me physically ill. LIFE?

Even though 5 of the 6 were thrown out and the other one is being tried separately, he allegedly ordered 6 hit-jobs through the site to go after people who were becoming issues for him and the business. I think this - no matter what might be said - played into the verdict. The judge gave him a stricter sentence than even what the prosecution wanted. If I recall correctly, a couple of these were FBI stings themselves and there may have even been one that was proactive (they approached him).

Anyone who wants to know the full story should read Wired's two-part series on this. They're both long reads, but worth it. If you can't make it through both, then I highly recommend reading the second one.

Good riddance. This was one of the slickest criminal schemes ever. As with all other large-scale  trafficking in drugs it eventually gets brutal despite the sophistication.

Oh wow after reading the whole thing-- yeah the sentence handed down was more than appropriate. Very little MSM coverage of this

Life imprisonment should be abolished.

Obviously agree with ebowed, but if anyone deserves it, this guy was probably one of worst for the hit jobs alone. Still extreme. Parole at 20 years should be the max.

This certainly isn't a great guy, but I don't agree with the severe sentence. Unfortunately, I'll bet the drug-related crimes are what really put him away. The crime in this case does not merit a life sentence, nor does it merit anything close.

Which he was never even formally charged with responsibility for, much less proven guilty.

Murder in the furtherance of a racketeer-influenced and corrupt organization (RICO) is a federal offense with a potential death penalty attached. Also a continuing criminal enterprise.

He probably gets to the Supermax in Florence, Colorado -- closest place to Hell on Earth in America except for Death Valley or Mount Washington (depending on your taste).

Hmm.  Disagree.

Sounds comically idealistic.

It was probably the solicitation of murder charges that got him the life sentence. Of course overseeing the dealing of large quantities of drugs doesn't help his case ether.
