BREAKING: Rand Paul Withdraws

Rand Paul waiting to announce his withdrawal from the Independence Party leadership campaign

My fellow party members, and to all Americans.

It is with much sadness that I today announce my withdrawal from our party's leadership campaign. I have taken this decision with a heavy heart, but after many difficult conversations with my family and friends, I have come to the conclusion that I should play no further part in this campaign.

I have been a member of the party my whole political life. I have devoted everything that I have to our cause, even when times were tough and we were considered an unwanted "fringe" on the political spectrum. But now we have a permanent voice in the national discussion, and our ideas are resonating with many more Americans. It is my belief in our party's cause that has brought me to this decision. A prolonged leadership campaign will damage our party and I therefore step aside.

To Bill Weld, who will now be our presumptive nominee, I offer my congratulations. However, I am in no position to endorse. I remember the tough campaigns when Bill Weld and his Conservative Party opposed us every step of the way, trying to damage our wish to represent Americans who were let down or failed by the Conservatives.

I will continue in my role as Deputy Leader until I am asked to step aside, and will continue to campaign for Independence candidates across the country.

To all those who supported me, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your willingness to volunteer, to campaign for me and take our case to the nation is second to none. I thank you all, and I am sorry that we could not have a better outcome.

God bless you all and God bless America.

Campaign Schedule Part 1: May 11-17  (Weekly "Schedule"), Ads, Campaign Staff

Week of May 11-17

Suzan DelBene spends most of the week in her district and DC. In DC, she holds a campaign strategy meeting with top campaign staff and the MPs who have endorsed her - the subject of the meeting involves maximizing DelBene's vote share in California and ensuring that the Progressive Party becomes more competitive in the West. DelBene also attends a few town halls and fundraisers in central California.

DelBene's campaign staff construct minor campaign offices in every state that has yet to vote, including DC.

Staffers and volunteers in all campaign offices, major and minor, conduct a voter outreach program that consists of phonebanking, mailing leaflets, registering voters, and trying to attract new volunteers. Staffers in all districts also try to encourage primary and general election turnout. More campaign resources are allocated to these efforts in KY, MT, NJ, NM, OR, and CA.

DelBene releases new internet ads. The focus of the ads is criminal justice reform.

DelBene records and releases a new TV ad: "Western Progressivism." It is a joint production with the Progressive Party and is not directly tied to the DelBene campaign. The ad will be played in the following states beginning on May 15:

“It is unbelievable that a fascist has won the presidential election in the Philippines. In case you don't know what has happened just a few days ago, the radical conservative nominee, Rodrigo Duterte, has won the country's election in a landslide election. Rodrigo Duterte is a man who has promised to kill over 100,000 million criminals, who wants to introduce death penalty, who wants to override the constitution, who has called the current pope a “son of a bitch” and who was complaining about a rape, not because it happened, but because the wasn't first!
Extremism and fascism is one the rise on the whole planet, and our deeply divided government has tried nothing to stop this dangerous development. We need a really progressive government to make an example, to show that we don't tolerate inhumanity in our globalized, humanitarian world.”

“I am sick and tired of our government that still hasn't taken any steps against the massive tax fraud which was discovered just a month ago. The panama papers have uncovered the greed and the selfishness that has poisoned our society. While our honest citizens, our hardworking families, who stand up and work every day and pay their fair share to make our society stable and solidly united, these bosses and billionaires haven't paid a nickle in our American social systems for years. That means no money for education and for our public schools. That means no money for a clean and working energy system. That means no money for our veterans. No money for our infrastructure. No money for those who really need help.
No, this topic has disappeared in our public awareness. Because the conservatives, the liberals, the independents, the nationalists and the jacksonians don't want to talk about it. The government hasn't agreed on a single measure to fight tax fraud. A government which is deeply divided can not lead this country. We need a government that has the guts to fight tax fraud and greed, and to resist the undemocratic and immoral influence that Wall Street has in our political system!”

“The people here in California, but also the people in the other states, in New Jersey, in Montana, in New Mexico and in the other states that will cast its vote tomorrow can now confirm the decision that the members of the progressive party have made in the last months. This state, this region, is the perfect example why we need a progressive victory in November. Families are fighting against the daily struggle the drought has brought to them, they are fighting to survive, but our political elites, the government, but in particular Minister McConnell do not take any steps to prevent this dangerous development. He is the person who bars the way to a new clean energy revolution we desperately need to prevent the serious threat of climate change, which has made the situation in this state even worse. He is not just the wrong person for the job, he is also the undisputed king of the companies and of Wall Street. $1.8 million! That is what oil and gas companies have paid him in his entire career to prevent a reasonable progress considering our energy sources. And I highly doubt that another conservative minister wouldn't do otherwise. We need a political revolution to achieve a better life for thousands of families in this state. Let me be clear: I will take care of you!”

May 17th:
- live Facebook Q&A
- rally in San Diego, CA
- rally in San Jose, CA
- campaign through San Jose, CA

To all of my volunteers, voters, supporters and to all the people, who have fought with my during the last months: Thank you. - Elizabeth Warren

Ad "My Platform"

Narrator (a young woman)

Hey [state in which this spot is aired]. Still unsure who to vote for on Tuesday? Here are five positions of Elizabeth Warren you should know before voting in the primary.
[/size]

Climate change has arrived in the United States, and Elizabeth Warren will give it a top priority. She will charge the main agents of climate change through a lower tolerance level for carbon emissions. She will establish an agency which plans the quick, smooth and socially acceptable restructuring of our main energy sources, which will create jobs and keeps our planet healthy.

Our democracy has been levered out by politicians who get supported by billionaires and greedy companies. Elizabeth Warren will propose a constitutional amendment to revoke Citizens United. A common-sense donation limit and a strengthened Federal Election Commission will give the power back to the American voters.

Elizabeth Warren will strengthen the American families through financial security. She will break up big banks and introduce a new fair tax system, which unburden the middle class and distribute the financial burden. A living wage of 15$ per hour will increase the national purchasing power and thus making our economy better and fairer.

Federal funding for our public schools is not just an investment in new up-to-date equipment, it is an investment in our children who secure the prosperity and the future of this country. Elizabeth Warren will push for tuition-free colleges and for a reduction of current student debt. Further education shall be available for everyone who deserves it, not just for the kids with the richest parents.

Political leaders in this country have tried hard to denounce people who are fighting against racism, sexism, homophobia and any type of discrimination. But women and minorities are still underrepresented in our political institutions and latest incidents of police brutality have shown that there is structural discrimination in our society. Elizabeth Warren will defend our achievements our country has already made and will push for more affirmative action. The gender pay gap and the racial pay gap will be eliminated. Isn't that a vision to work for?

Elizabeth Warren

Our campaign has achieved great things, and it can achieve even more. Go to elizabethwarren.com for further information or visit your local campaign office. I count on you. I'm Elizabeth Warren, and I approve this message.

To be aired in all states with upcoming primaries and to be shared on all avialable social media channels.

Ad "Talkin' bout a Revolution"

I. The following letters are faded in slowly. In the background: not dramatic, but soft and moving music.

II. An excerpt of a speech of Elizabeth Warren in the parliament.
“We are not only talking about money, even though some of you are still thinking that social security and a strong economy are two separate things. Our economy has not just to work for the people, but for the common man and the common woman, who are giving this country so much, but are getting so little. It is not just a matter of money. It is a matter of morality.”

III. Different press commentaries at the beginning of the campaign.
“The deputy leader of the progressive party, Elizabeth Warren, has announced her candidacy for the leadership of her party.”
“Elizabeth Warren faces a tough challenge she is very likely to lose.”
“Elizabeth Warren is popular within the progressive party, but I doubt that she has any chance.”
“She gambles with her whole further political career.”

IV. Footage of Elizabeth Warren's announcement speech.

“We have seen both liberal and conservative governments in the last years, and poverty, worry and existential fears have not disappeared. There are still there. Hate is still there. Inequality is still there. The income gap is still there. My name is Elizabeth Warren, and I want to be the next leader of the Progressive Party, so we can fix this country – together. “

V. Footage of early campaign speeches of Elizabeth Warren

“The economical success, the peaceful coexistence in a society does never just depend on the performance of the top 1%, but of the performance of all people who live and work in and for this country. We are standing on a secure foundation which was built by hard working men and women, who stand up everyday and make this country a better place to live.“

“A country makes a fool out of itself when its own people are questioning whether we are still living in a democracy in which representatives and governments are elected of the people, for the people, by the people – or whether we are living in an oligarchy where big companies and back-room politics determine who is allowed to run successfully for office.”

“War, in every case, should be the ultima ratio when it comes to foreign policy. I have opposed military interventions as a strategy for erasing complex diplomatic conflicts in the past, and I will do so in the future. However, I stand by my standpoint that if we have the money for weapons, tanks and ships, we should also have the money to care for those people who served this country in the military.”

VI. Footage of TV commentators on Elizabeth Warren

“She could shake up our whole political process.”
“I think Elizabeth Warren is totally underestimated. Once people realize what a person she is, she is going to achieve major victories, I am sure.”
“Her record is astonishing. She would not only be a great leader, but also a good Prime Minister.”

VII. Footage of Elizabeth Warren campaigning

“The truth is, that many people in this country lost their trust in our financial institutes and in our economy. And now, eight years after the biggest financial crisis since the great depression, the trust of the people has still not been restored – for a good reason. No one was held accountable for this giant mess, there haven't been any measures resolved how we make the economy work for the people and not just for the big bosses. I will change that.”

“When the Liberals and Conservatives say that wealth and economical success have increased, than they might say some true things. But the problem is, that this country can be as successful and wealthy as it wants to be, the wealth and prosperity everyone hoped for after the financial crisis goes straight to the top 1 percent. Our economy does better, yes. But our families don't. Every third child in this country has to grow up in poverty. Every third child will not have the abilities and chances its friends and classmates might have. No matter how talented or intelligent it might be.”

“If we really want progress in this country, if we really want to encourage our young ladies to follow their passion and become whatever they want to be, if we really want our hard working women to get paid like our hard working men, then, we have to vote progressive, and we have to vote for Elizabeth Warren, because I will make equality – nut just for women, but also for homosexuals and minorities – a major issue when I am elected leader of the Progressive Party.”

VIII. Footage of TV commentators on Elizabeth Warren
“Elizabeth Warren has won the Iowa caucus in a surprising victory.”
“She is now leading the polls for the progressive nomination.”
“Elizabeth Warren holds a significant lead in the delegate count that is expected to expand on Tuesday.”

IX. Bernie Sanders endorses Elizabeth Warren

“It is my privilege to back the person who has stood at my side through good times and bad for this party, the person who helped make this party great. I am proud to endorse my good friend Elizabeth Warren for Prime Minister!”

X. Footage of Elizabeth Warren rallies.

XI. Footage of Elizabeth Warren's speech.

“We want everyone to get the respect he or she deserves. We want our energy clean and our planet healthy. We want our politicians and our economy working for the people, not just for themselves. We want a fair tax system. We want freedom and equality for everyone. We want a new beginning”

XII. End

“I’m Elizabeth Warren, and I approve this message wholeheartedly.”

To be aired in all states.

Ad "Our Climate"

Elizabeth Warren

In the past years, we have seen a dramatic increase of drought in this country, and denying the fact that climate change was a supportive factor is a threat for all the people in America who already living at the limits of human existence. But we also have to admit, that the climate change and our politics and economics are closely intertwined.

Mitch McConnell, our current minister of energy, has received nearly $1.8 million from oil and gas interest groups over his whole political career, in order to prevent the funding of the clean and renewable energy sources we desperately need to keep our planet healthy and healthy for our children.

Shortsighted deregulation and a lack of governmental control has lead to the obscene circumstance that companies have been able to grow to dominating monopoles who not just control our free market but also the politicians that have pledged to work for the people in this country.

We are going to remind the companies and the politicians that they both have to work for the common people in this country, not just for each other. In government, we will make the companies responsible for their own actions, and we will will fight corruption due to a limit for campaign donations by commercial organizations.

And of course, we are going to find climate change. We will establish an agency which plans the quick, smooth and socially acceptable restructuring of our main energy sources, which will create jobs and keeps our planet healthy. That's how we help the people who are already struggling with the current situation.

I am Elizabeth Warren and I approve this message, because I want to make you know that we can improve the lives of millions of people in this country. Thank you.

Ad "Working People"

Elizabeth Warren

We have to face the fact that the effort of millions of workers in the United States becomes more and more meaningless every year. While Americans are working longer than they did ten years ago, the bottom 90% get less from the income than the top 10%.

While the people in this country are still heavily struggling with the impact of the economical crisis, the top one percent has recovered very well. It has captured 95% of the post-recession income growth under the Obama administration. The gap between the rich and the poor is bigger than it was in 2008.

Our government authorities have failed to bring this country together and to help the  families in this country. Their plans and their actions have been useless and hurtful for the middle class.

We want to provide wealth and prosperity for everyone in this country, not just for the richest few. We will introduce a new and fair tax system, which will take the enormous financial burden from the middle class. We will rise the minimum wage to 15$ per hour to make sure that everyone is able to live and to pay their rent and to boost the economy. And we will support small businesses to keep our free market alive. That's how we achieve financial equality in this country.

I am Elizabeth Warren and I approve this message, because I want to make you know that we can improve the lives of millions of people in this country. Thank you.

To be aired in South Dakota, Montana, Kentucky, DC, Oregon and New Jersey.

Press Statement

I am not the person to take such attacks that we all saw recently personally. In fact, I believe that this ad speaks for itself. But the fact that this advertisement has not just attacked me, but also my fellow candidate, MP Sherrod Brown, who I value highly as a friend and as a competent colleague, has inducted me to comment and to condemn this whole incident.

This advertisement of the SEIU has broken the unwritten law, that, during a primary election for leadership of the progressive party, there shall be no negative advertisement against other candidates. That was a tradition which was openly confirmed by all contestants in January. We, the progressive party, we are a party which demands more tolerance, more respect for everyone in our society. Therefore, it is to expect that all candidates for progressive leadership live out these values. We are, as a party with a long tradition of intra-party democracy, free to attack each other and to start discussions, as long as our arguments are based on facts and as long as the discussions are based on the issues the American people want to talk about, not just on blind condemnations. That's what has made our party unique.

I want to thank my good friend and our current leader, Bernie Sanders, for his stance against this advertisement. He has made clear that attacks on a personal level have no place in our internal procedures. I also call Tulsi Gabbard to clarify this misconception and to dissociate from this ad. That is not what I would have expected from Tulsi Gabbard, who is a very qualified MP and whose achievements I have respected ever since I got to know her. But this is an outrageous ad and an embarrassment for our whole party and our whole primary process. This is not what our party is about.
