I was only two years old, so I don't remember anything about the 1992 election. I watched some videos of the Election Night returns, and while Perot's probable impact on the popular vote was well documented, none of the major networks seemed to think he would win any electoral votes. They didn't even designate a color for him on the electoral map. NBC made a perfunctory mention that they'd use a "neutral color" in the event that Perot won a state, and ABC made no mention of a designation at all.

I wonder if anybody who was alive then could shed some light on this. Given the eventual election results, I'd think he'd have been in some sort of longshot contention to win Maine, Alaska, or Utah...in the same vein that Evan McMullin could potentially win Utah in 2016.

Perot came closest in ME; I suspect he could have won one CD in ME with a little extra push.

If he didn't drop out and chose a more competent running mate (I respect Admiral Stockdale, but he was a terrible VP candidate).

Other than that maybe win Maine statewide.

Are ME CD results available anywhere?

I think it was 38/33/29 (Clinton/Perot/Bush).

Yes; from Congressional Quarterly's Politics In America, 1993 and 1995 editions.
ME-01: Clinton 40%, Bush 32%, Perot (and others?) 28%
ME-02: Clinton 38%, Bush 29%, Perot (and others?) 33%

Who else could he have picked? Lowell Weicker?

Stockdale was supposed to be a placeholder but was made the actual running mate in the last minute.

He was woefully and embarrassingly unprepared for the debate.
