yeah nitassinan is two Innu rez in labrador and also in quebec.
NunatuKavut is south labrador where Inuit-Metis or Labrador Metis

Does that include HVGB and the south coast? or did you omit those areas?

Yes, Nunatsiavut (5 towns in north labrador except Natuashish), Nitassinan (2 rez), Labrador West (Labrador City-Wabush) and NunatuKavut is all south labrador and coast (include HVGB)

This concludes today's thread bumping in the name of shameless self promotion.

That's the kind of promotion nobody has issues with, 506.

Awesome sauce. I've been having a lot of fun with this. Unfortunately, Ungava and Duplessis ridings are difficult to browse due to their size.

You know what's offputting? Seeing the PQ as blue. I know that's technically right, but holy hell it's confusing when you think the Tories won the most seats.

Yeah; I'm having the same problem. My big reason for using light blue for the PQ is that if I ever get around to doing historical maps with the UN, then the PQ has to be light blue, because the UN used blue as well.  Plus, I feel there should be a consistency with all right of centre parties being blue, and all Quebec separatist parties as light blue.

There is a precedent for flipping colours, right here on Dave's Atlas, the Dems are red and the GOP is blue Smiley Plus, Wikipedia uses light blue for the PQ on their maps, and darker blue for CAQ (purple elsewhere).

More updates! Last November's by-elections:

Bourassa: http://www.election-atlas.ca/fed/308/24009.php?e=2013
Toronto Centre: http://www.election-atlas.ca/fed/308/35093.php?e=2013
Brandon-Souris: http://www.election-atlas.ca/fed/308/46001.php?e=2013
Provencher: http://www.election-atlas.ca/fed/308/46008.php?e=2013

Comments

Bourassa: Race shaped up to be more of a traditional federalist vs sovereigntist divide, except with nationalists backing the NDP.
Toronto Centre: NDP collapsed in places like Regent Park. Looks like they upped their game north of Bloor, as they finished ahead of the Tories in a lot of polls.
Brandon-Souris: Fascinating NDP to Liberal swing. Look at the Indian Reserves. Liberals went from 1 vote to 70% of the vote...; City of Brandon was a Liberal sweep.
Provencher: Back to traditional French areas voting Liberal vs rest of the riding going Tory.

The Conservatives won every poll in Virden by at least 20 points. Twitter strikes again.

Probably more to do with Tories staying home.

A couple minor updates: all the by-elections from the last session of the Ontario legislature are now up. To wit:

Niagara Falls: http://www.election-atlas.ca/ont/107/54.php?e=2013
Thornhill: http://www.election-atlas.ca/ont/107/89.php?e=2013

Plus, the main federal riding page now has maps going back to 1979. Because I'm just that bored.

We noticed; we've been discussing the maps in the Canadian General Discussion thread: https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=184917.525

I'm guessing you made the shape files by hand?

Yup, by hand. Used the riding descriptions from the Library of Parliament site, which came in really handy every time they mentioned property lot numbers or municipalities that haven't existed in 30 years. There's a reason it took me 8 months.

Wow. How accurate would you say it is? Did you guess for some of the lot numbers/former municipalities? In Ontario, you can still find map with lots on them, at least for rural areas.

Keep up the good work. Let me know if you want some help, I've tried mapping old ridings before.

I'd say it's still pretty accurate. The only places where I truly had to guess were pretty much uninhabited. I've found a ton of sources to help me with a lot of the older info.

I guess with the uninhabited areas you could just use the big map in the National Atlas of Canada.
