If you want anything done then yes it's probably what the base wants. Hillary said in the debate she was a 'progressive who gets things done' yet she made that comment.

After 8 years of scorched earth tactics the Democratic base knows fully well that they can expect the same whoever is elected.

Hillary is an extremely polarizing candidate with no crossover appeal and Indies hate her, Biden's unity message could pay dividends in the GE.
Obama lost independents. He won two elections with over 50%.

Exactly. The Democrats will win by mobilizing their base, not by going after that elusive moderate/centrist/persuadable voter.
