Heh, both went for the power handshake that CNN was saying to watch for.

While many of Mitt's jokes flop (even I'll admit that), the anniversary joke was pretty funny. Tongue

I believe Mitt won the first question.

Agreed.

Wait, what was the zinger?

His attack on himself; saying that Obama was stuck with him. At least I think.

I'm incredibly nervous right now - haven't been this nervous once this campaign.

This debate is critical - I'll admit it. So far, so good.

Don't be relieved yet; we're 3 minutes in and there's plenty of time for a Perry style gaffe. I do hope it keeps going this well though.

Tweet from Chris Hayes:

Mitt Romney: "I'm not going to cut taxes for people with high income.' That's just an absolute, bald faced lie.
— @chrislhayes

CNN's fact checker showed that as a fact, not a lie...

This. CNN literally spoke about it 3 minutes before the debate.

I get the last word in this segment! Argh!!!!!

So petulant.

He who is timid doesn't get to speak. And he who doesn't get to speak loses.

I'm glad their actually addressing each other. In a lot of past debates the debaters mostly just ignored the other and said their talking points. Both Obama and Romney really seem to be actually acting like they are speaking to someone whose actually in the building with them.

On Lehrer: such is what you're forced to use when you're trying to get a non-partisan moderator.

This thread has made me grateful for the existence of the Atlas chatroom for the first time in its existence. What in the hell debate were half of you people watching.

Er... which half?

For the record, I always enjoy the Atlas chatroom on debates.

...wait, there's an atlas chatroom? Where?
