Marijuana has been proven to be a gateway to using other drugs.

No, that has not been proven.  Perhaps, there's a statistical correlation but correlation does not equal causation.  No study has come close to showing that marijuana use causes hard drug use.

And as for gay marriage, I support equal rights for homosexual couples, but don't redefine marraige to do that.  Call it a "civil union" and give them the rights, but don't be changing a religious definition.

How does changing the law change the religious definition?  We have a separation of church and state and ultimately, nobody can force you to support gay marriage.  And really, if it's the same in everything but name, doesn't that imply gay people's relationships are lesser compared to "real" marriages.
I might get to pot later, but by sanctioning "gay marriage" you are violating the religious beliefs of those who do not recognize that as a marriage.

Just out of curiosity, Oldiesfreak, do you have the number 1854 in your username because that's the year you are living in?

I've no idea what incident they're referring to, but Al's prose is always epic.

I'm making perfect sense. You are just emotionally malformed.

Is he autistic?

Regardless, he's terribly unfunny.

Yes, and you are such a great person Napoleon.  So full of niceties and just an overall pleasant individual.  May your high character, and noble treatment of all, be a shining example to others!

TNF: Ok, but how would you compare him to the other Congressional Republicans?

How would you compare a broken leg to having cancer?

The fact that his forum approval rating is positive is a truly awful reflection on the forum.

No, that would be something like, say, this thread.

The fact that his forum approval rating is positive is an indication that there aren't quite as many fragile pantywaists here as I initially thought.

but people should have a bit more compassion.

Yes, Thatcher's lack of compassion was an awful thing. Led directly to the wrecking of countless lives.

Uh, let's not forget that this is the same Frank Lautenberg that gained entry to the U.S. Senate (the first time around) by attacking his Republican opponent for being too old...and she was "only" in her 70s!

This is also the same Frank Lautenberg who fought the Nazis...

I wouldn't go that far concerning Mitch McConnell and the Senate minority.

FTR, regarding my answer, I like both countries.   Personally, I have a little Pennsylvania Dutch ancestry, so that helps Germany (as does Merkel), but my answer remains the same.  Toss-up.

So NJ voted for McClellan in 1864 and you just have to mention that... but you have nothing to say about Germany.  I was sure there was something... can't put my finger on it.

Most Democrats, the moronic lefties... love to redefine actual events as inaccurate and paint over the inconvenient and painful truths;

Calm down, bro. A sizable portion of your party believes the Earth is ~6,000 years old.

Why is heatmaster back?

A better question: why does he even exist in the first place?

Why ask? It's a well-established fact. You don't post threads asking "is the sky blue?".

Well we have debates about whether guns have anything to do with gun related crime.

If it makes you feel any better I have never even had a shred of respect for Antonio and completely lost it for Franzl a long time ago. So congrats! Smiley

I'm sure I'll lie awake at night for the next week wondering where I went wrong.

just kill the sequester. Austerity doesn't work and everybody with a brain knows it.

I think the party mentioned in the thread title is the GOP, is it not?

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PLEASE, PLEASE STOP. I know we don't take this forum seriously, but please, please, show a modicum of respect for the idea this is some kind of high-level forum and at least use punctuation. Please.

Thanks buddy. Wink

Anyway, here's a pretty awesome one:

The left likes to pick winners and loses you see.

And the right only picks losers.

Savor this:

BRTD, you treat religion worse than even the most annoying atheist of Christian fundie does. Because you treat religion as an accessory. To you it’s about what people wear, what people listen to and what they do with their hands a church and how hot the sermon leader is. That’s a twisted sense of religion buddy because you’re a vapid self absorbed sh-t. There’s nothing outside of you. Nothing outside of what you do, what you wear, what you smoke, what you listen to, where you shop or where you live. Everything can only be viewed through a Minneapolis based BRTD shaped prism. You can’t even understand why other Christians believe different things or worship different things or why people who aren’t Christian think your ‘Jesus is cool’ mantra is nothing more than t-shirt slogan psychology with no substance. You don’t care what people believe (or even what you believe) or ever take the time to think things through. If someone talks about a mass, or prayer or way of worship that means something to them because it’s not what you like you dismiss it; ‘Oh he’s wearing a suit, oh he’s playing an organ, I don’t have the attention span to deal with that because life for me is one big f-cking party.’

You’re the one who takes a two storey high dump on people’s beliefs BRTD and you have the cheek to call us boring? You’ve been posting the same topics, polling the same issues and generally shoehorning in things you like into conversations even if it has nothing to do with the subject on here for ten years. Grow up and move on. You think Opebo is cool, because you’re too unoriginal to come up with anything like his posting style and demeanour, or anything original at all. You know what? I’m pretty sure Opebo thinks you’re a dick.

Glorious.

Ditto. This is one of the most masterful posts ever made.

Here's a masterful ownage of Vosem. Note the use of apostrophes.

The government should not take from some, with the goal of lowering their standard of living to give to others, even if the goal is to heighten their standard of living.

'The goal of lowering their standard of living'? What is wrong with you? This is like the time the otherwise very wise John Irving said that rich people in Vermont were a persecuted class.

If you're goal is to lower economic inequality, then you have two goals:
a) To make one part of society poorer.
b) To make another part of society richer.

Unless that isn't the goal?

Ou're goal is indeed to lower inequality, but part a) of your formulation isn't so much an intentional aspect of that as a side-effect that w'e don't find much cause to care about, since in the case of the current American power elite there is nothing that any sane human being could possibly need or want to do with that amount of money. Additionally the money isn't really 'the'irs' in a full sense (although it's obviously partially 'the'irs', otherwise the concept of money is useless), since (in non-radically-individualist worldviews, traditionally conservative and socialist alike) the'y owe a debt to the society that allowed the'm to make it in the first place.
