What is the most stupid thing ever said by a president or future president?

Some suggestions:

"If it takes a bloodbath, let's get it over with." -- Ronald Reagan (as Governor of California on his attitude towards student civil rights activists, dissenters and Vietnam War protestors)

"One problem that we've had, even in the best of times, is the people sleeping on the grates, the homeless who are homeless, you might say, by choice." -- Ronald Reagan

"Trees cause more pollution than automobiles do." -- Ronald Reagan

"I don't know that atheists should be regarded as citizens, nor should they be regarded as patriotic.  This is one nation under God." -- George H.W. Bush

"Everybody knows that I have tougher ethics rules than any other previous President." -- Bill Clinton

"Africa is a nation that suffers from incredible disease." -- George W. Bush

"Families is where our nation finds hope, where wings take dream." -- George W. Bush

"More seldom than not, the movies gives us exquisite sex and wholesome violence, that underscores our values. Every two child did. I will." -- George W. Bush

"The next time you see one of those squirrels go near my putting green, take a gun and shoot it"
-Dwight D. Eisenhower To his valet, Sgt. Moaney, in frustration over the White House squirrels who buried acorns in his new putting green. (from Upstairs at the White House by J. B. West, Chief Usher of the White House.

"Things are more like they are now than they ever were before."

"One of my hardest parts of my job is to console the family members who have lost their life." -George W. Bush

The one with the grecian is hilarious. I do admit though some of Bush's words are useful. I used 'misunderestimated' by accident a few weeks ago. My current favorites for Bush cliches are 'suiciders' and 'greater Middle East.'

Here are two more good ones from W:
"I haven't had a chance to talk, but I'm confident we'll get a bill that I can live with if we don't."

"Russia is no longer our enemy and therefore we shouldn't be locked into a Cold War mentality that says we keep the peace by blowing each other up. In my attitude, that's old, that's tired, that's stale. "

True, but I agree Bush probably has a similar thing.

Also, what seems folksy and endearing to the Republican base look stupid to everyone else, I suspect.

Even if he wasn't really president, vice-president is close enough, because Dan Quayle had the best ones ever!
Just a few:

"I love California, I practically grew up in Phoenix"

"If we don't succeed we run the risk of failure"

"We don't want to go back to tomorrow, we want to go forward"

"One word sums up the responsibility of any vice-president, that word is 'to be prepared'"

"I believe we are on an irreversible trend towards more freedom and democracy, but that could change"

"For NASA, space is still a high priority"

"It's wonderful to be here in the great state of Chicgo!"

"The president is going to lead us out of this recovery"

I actually miss him, Cheney just can't provide the same comic relief

Here is the best quote by Dan Qualye: "The Civil War was the best war we've ever had because when you're fighting with yourself, you're always going to win."

Quayle was great for one-liners.  Here's another one:

"It isn't pollution that's harming our environment.  It's the impurities in our air and water that's harming our environment."

I've never read the Ronald Reagan quote where he blames trees for pollution. Do you have that one?
