"Based on your answers, the best state for you is one where people ’s basic needs are well looked after and people are free to pursue creative and fulfilling lives."

Well, yes, that does sound right. This quiz was a strange mix of quite good and bizarrely bad.
Ranking of dimensions: Big government, individualist, democratic, (from here on we get quite close to 50/50: ) rationalist, wide focus, ecocentric.

Rousseau Democrat

Description
Rousseau was the original proponent of Liberty, Equality and Fraternity, and the intellectual architect of the French revolution. Poor for most of his life, his was the original statement of radical egalitarianism.

This personality type combines these five perspectives
democrat, big state, individualist, rationalist, wide focus

Highest ranking dimension: Big Government
You believe in the power of government to make life better. You may have felt that what the country really needs is for the government to get serious about the many problems that people face. This may be because you have seen the system break down and know people who have fallen through the cracks. It may also be because you feel that our society is at risk our communities need better protection from internal and external dangers. Others may disagree with you because they are focused on what government does wrong, rather than what it does right. When politicians of your type make mistakes it is often because they create programs that solve one problem but create others.

Second highest ranking dimension: Individualist
You believe in the right of an individual to "be themself" in thought and deeds. You may have felt that what the country really needs is a politician with the nerve to tell people when it comes to controlling others, they should mind their own business. This may be because you enjoy a diversity of experiences and don ’t get offended easily. It may also be because you’ve seen people be persecuted. Others may disagree with you because they feel a right to protect what they see as community values. When politicians of your type make mistakes it is often because they underestimate people’s need for sta bility and safety.

Combined statement:
Based on your answers, the best state for you is one where people ’s basic needs are well looked after and people are free to pursue creative and fulfilling lives.

Interesting. Sort of accurate, and sort of not. The Wide Focus part fits perfectly though. Grin

Your result for The Economic School of Thought Test ...
Austrian American
8 Keynesian, 23 Chicago, 77 Austrian
You are an Austrian American. I call you this because you obviously scored highly in the "Austrian School", but you still lean somewhat toward the "Chicago School" approach as to how a free market society works best. Perhaps you like F. A. Hayek. Perhaps you are combining libertarian intuition with a college economic backgrounds. In any event, this is definitely a solid free market stance; however, you might want to look more into these schools of thought, and find out about your inner conflict Wink

You believe that people should look at the big picture before making decisions. You may have felt that what the country really needs is a government that can focus on the big issues that will be affecting everyone of the next 100 years. This may be because you have seen too much spending on the "symptoms" rather than the underlying causes. It may also be because you feel that wealthy countries have a responsibility to the rest of the world. Others may disagree with you because they don ’t want to set aside their own needs for the needs of others far away. When politicians of your type make mistakes it is often because they can be too optimistic about their ability to make a difference.

Combined statement:
Based on your answers, you are a strong supporter of a "planned society".

Your result for The Economic School of Thought Test ...
Austrian Economist

0 Keynesian, 8 Chicago, 92 Austrian
You are an Austrian Economist. You scored at least 60% on the Austrian variable. Therefore, if you don't know what an Austrian economist is, you at least show signs that you might be interested in going to http://www.mises.org and learning a bit more about them. You likely favor abolishing the minimum wage, allowing free trade and exchange of goods, and believe the government should exert minimum if any intrusion into the free market so that free individuals can interact in a way that makes the realization of the dreams come true. Acting individuals need this freedom so they will reach their full potential, not become dependent, and they need the stability of the rule of law to initiate plans for their own lives across a lifespan. You tend to be more abstract than the other economic schools, yet also more appreciative of the subjectivism postmodernism makes clear.

I wonder where my heresy lies...

Which is accurate enough. Questions are pretty appalling. Both"Idealist Literalist/Rationalist" and "Narrow/Wide Focus" dimensions make little sense, unless the former refers to "gut feeling" v. "clear thinking". I can't explain the latter.

I've become skeptical of dimension-based politics in general. It divides thinking into discrete realms instead of allowing people to develop an arching philosophy. Perhaps this is why socialism, having trapped itself in "the Western Left", is theoretically stagnant compared to the axiom of conservatism.

I took the 2012 candidate selector:

Mitt Romney 81%
Rick Santorum 81%
Sarah Palin 74%
Newt Gingrich 69%
Michele Bachmann 69%
Ron Paul 63%
Rob Portman 58%
Wayne Allyn Root 54%
Mitch Daniels 50%
Tim Pawlenty 49%
Gary Johnson 32%
Buddy Roemer 29%
Jon Huntsman 29%
Joe Biden ("presumed VP candidate") 21%
Barack Obama 17%
Herman Cain 12%

I'm very surprised that the person I hate most (Romney) was the highest correlation; also that my two top choices, Daniels and Roemer, weren't even close to the top. Maybe this means I should consider supporting Rick Santorum Tongue.

Highest ranking dimension: Small Government

You believe in a government that keeps order but otherwise stays out of the way. You may have felt that what the country really needs is a government with the courage to take on some of the "sacred cows" of government spending. This may be because you have been irked by how much you pay in taxes. It may also be because you feel that excessive government support programs reward those with no initiative. Others may disagree with you because they see some people as having the system stacked against them. When politicians of your type make mistakes it is because they find it difficult to maintain the "tough love" approach when their friends and supporters ask for help.

Second highest ranking dimension: Wide Focus

You believe that people should look at the big picture before making decisions. You may have felt that what the country really needs is a government that can focus on the big issues that will be affecting everyone of the next 100 years. This may be because you have seen too much spending on the "symptoms" rather than the underlying causes. It may also be because you feel that wealthy countries have a responsibility to the rest of the world. Others may disagree with you because they don ’t want to set aside their own needs for the needs of others far away. When politicians of your type make mistakes it is often because they can be too optimistic about their ability to make a difference.

Combined statement:

Based on your answers, you would like to explore the idea of government fading away over time in a peaceful prosperous free world.

A quiz I created myself (sorry, it really only works for libertarians, since it's about which type of libertarian you are, but w/e):

http://www.helloquizzy.com/tests/the-cosmopaleo-test-for-libertarians

Your result for The Cosmo/Paleo Test for Libertarians ...
Paleolibertarian

28 Cosmotarianess!
You are clearly a paleolibertarian.  You like your God (maybe) and your guns (definitely), you are pure in heart and doctrine, you think the world is against you and you are against the world.  Your heroes are in the past, the future is either bleak or Ron Paul, and you religiously check your Lew Rockwell.  You vote for ideological purity or not at all, and you are wholly disconnected from the "DC crowd."

Not very accurate, imo. I consider economic issues far more pressing than social ones - but I completely reject laissez-faire capitalism as a libertarian economic arrangement. I'm far outside the libertarian establishment, let alone the American political establishment as it currently exists.

A generic libertarian

42 Cosmotarianess!

You are typical of the average American libertarian.  You accept some parts of the "cosmotarian" and "paleolibertarian" poles, but do not ultimately align yourself with either.  You don't think that libertarianism and libertinism are either synonymous or wholly opposed, your reading material neither consists of Eugen von Böhm-Bawerk or The New Republic, and you generally just lean towards freedom, nothing more and nothing less.

it's true I'm not a pure libertarian. Cosmolibertarian is accurate for me on racial/immigration issues and probably economics much more so than for traditional morality, where I'm more paleo.
