Other news of the evening - Abbott has attended a small protest in her honour, and promised to be a candidate “no matter what”. Which feels like we’re edging towards the Labour rule book again…

Probably going to end up joining Corbyn in the left-and-long-serving independent's corner.

They want Pecker's testimony, a call with Trump, and his testimony about the trump tower meeting, and Cohen's testimony about his not finalizing the transfer rights to McDougal's story.

This is very bad news for Trump.

If a guilty verdict were to come these days, what would be the immediate next steps? As far as I know, at least from TV series and movies, the judge would have a few weeks for the sentence decision. Would Trump immediately have to surrender himself to authorities before he will be released again on bond? To wait for the judge announcing his decision?

He would probably be released on his own recognizance pending sentencing. Sentencing would be a few weeks or a couple months later.

We will be waiting for a while.

Living in the west coast of the US is always nice for elections like this. Granted, at the rate it sounds like, there might not be much until tomorrow morning my time.

https://www.cfr.org/blog/international-criminal-court-prosecutor-threatens-united-states-senators

Quote
After the prosecutor called for the arrest warrants for top Israeli officials, 12 United States Senators wrote to the ICC. The full text of the letter is below. The final paragraphs read:

If you issue a warrant for the arrest of the Israeli leadership, we will interpret this not only as a threat to Israel’s sovereignty but to the sovereignty of the United States.

The United States will not tolerate politicized attacks by the ICC on our allies. Target Israel and we will target you. If you move forward with the measures indicated in the report, we will move to end all American support for the ICC, sanction your employees and associates, and bar you and your families from the United States. You have been warned.

The reaction of the Prosecutor’s office came in a tweet, whose text is also below. The key language is this: “When individuals threaten to retaliate against the Court or Court personnel….such threats, even when not acted upon, may also constitute an offence against the administration of justice under Art. 70 of the Rome Statute….”

The House and Senate should quickly pass the sanction the ICC bill so the message comes out that yes we fully intend to undermine them.

Actually they should add a provision to the bill which would make it a felony to charge any American under "ICC authority". So if the ICC Prosecutor even tries to ask for charges against these senators, then that ICC prosecutor can be indicted under US law

For the crime of what exactly? Not bending over for whatever the hell Washington says, just because half of Congress is in bed with Bibi?

Attempted Kidnapping would be one but it could be a new offense as well as the law would be new.

Haley is the best presidential candidate since Mitt Romney.

One thing I'll say is that even terrorists can acknowledge and fear strength when they see it. With presidents like Obama or Biden, terrorists can easily call off their bluff (remember Obama's red line?). That wouldn't be the case with someone like Romney or Haley. The downfall of neoconservatism is one of the worst things that has happened in the 21st century.

Hell yeah brother, let's bring back war crimes!

The second Trump wins the election (if he wins, which looks increasingly likely) Netanyahu will withdraw all troops from Gaza. Biden only gave him 99% of what he wanted, and that's not enough for the most pampered, entitled country on the planet.

The fact that supposed moderates like Gantz still haven't pulled their war cabinet support to stop this madness reflects awfully on their character too. This is a very sick society.

Leftists are completely delusional about what Palestinian culture is. They think this is some indigenous, peaceful tribe like Mayan civilization in 3000 BC (of course they are wrong about this too) when you listen to some of their language. Unfortunately, reality on the ground suggests if given the capacity they would kill every Jewish person they could.

I'm sure bombing refugee camps will totally change their culture.

Both Gantz and Galland gave a three week deadline that hasn’t passed yet

Not holding my breath.

What is your solution to the conflict then? Eliminate Israel's Jewish majority?

Yeah.

End of minority rule (apartheid).

Glad you finally just came clean about the end game. You danced around it for months. Why is it that Israel gets eliminated but other countries like the Netherlands, Hungary, Romania don't? Couldn't at all be because of the country's Jewish majority? There is no minority rule because the West Bank and Gaza are to be part of a Palestinian state, not Israel.

A one united Democratic Palestine state that grantees the equal rights to Arabs and Jews is the best outcome for all parties involved. When people say they support a one party state they're not talking about wiping an ethnic group out of the region. A state in which is neutral in the ruling of ethnicity will help bring justice to the region while a two-state solution is "separate but equal" proposal. Palestine will still be under threat under a solution where Israel still has the power to invade the nation.
So no Israel? you basically just admitted you want the destruction of Israel?

I don't really agree with his proposal but good Lord, this is the dumbest possible interpretation. Log off for a while and work on your reading comprehension, my goodness.

I mean, he says right above you "Yes, Israel will cease to exist and be replaced with Palestine".

They can talk all they want about equal rights for all, but we know it won't play out like that. The best case scenario is that the Jews of Israel flee into the diaspora in this scenario, the most likely outcome is that the borders are slammed shut first.

A two-state solution with a hard border is the only workable option now. What that looks like will depend heavily on how many hostages are still alive.

Well before the point where Jews flee into the diaspora, Israel would be tempted to use nukes. Is this likely? No. But we are talking tail risk in this scenario.

My point is that it is truly amazing how these "social justice" anti-Israel advocates all have fancy schools on their resume and yet no common sense resolution to this conflict.

Yeah, this is being written as some sort of fictional scenario where the entire world pressures Israel into total surrender without a response. Needless to say, complete nonsense.

Wow, threatening people for criticizing you? No wonder they like Hamas so much and go easy on China and North Korea.
