I think both parites are taking advantage of gay Americans. Many mainstream Republicans use us as a wedge, while most Democrats simply take the support of the gay community for granted while doing little or nothing to advance gay rights.
One the one hand, Bush supported a vile amendment knowing it would be defeated simply win the hearts and minds of the right wing of the party. Kerry, on the other, refuses to endorse gay marriage and cops out by saying it should be left to the states, knowing full well that many would outlaw it.
