If I recall correctly, Isaac Asimov was one of the first, around 1970, to call out CO2 emissions as a cause of global warming, at a time when many were fearing and warning of a future ice age.
But what do the Milankovitch cycles (precession, axial tilt, eccentricity of Earth's orbit) have to do with it?
In the next 10,000 years, (1) the perihelion date will move from Jan. 3 to sometime in June, meaning shorter but more intense summers for the Northern Hemisphere where 95% of Earthlings live, and longer and more intense winters; (2) the Earth's axial tilt will decrease slightly, meaning less sun for the poles; and (3) the Earth's orbit will become more like a perfect circle, meaning less overall insolation (solar energy)? I predict continued warming due to (1) and (2).
