Which of the following correctly ranks from least to greatest explanatory power

1, Theory, Hypothesis, Law

2, Hypothesis, Theory, Law

3, Law, Hypothesis, Theory,

4, Hypothesis, Law, Theory,

This question for my science class has been driving me crazy for he past hour or so, however in my opinion it would be number 2.

Yes, 4. What people don't understand is that a scientific theory is not speculation or an assumption. It's a collection of concepts and laws that define or explain certain observations. So, the "theory of evolution" isn't "what assume evolution is", because the scientific community knows it's fact, it's really all the concepts and phenomena that we know encompasses evolution. Hypothesis obviously has the least power, and since a theory is a collection of laws, it's more powerful than just one law.
