Presuming he is the King of Bacon, a very appropriate nickname.

Otherwise, he is a DIRTY LIAR.

The question you want to ask is "Breton or French?"

Franzl is kind of a nickname that I use in Germany, obviously makes little sense to people in the U.S.

My actual name is Franz-Josef. I use "Joe" while in the U.S., like now, because I don't like explaining my life history to everyone, and because nobody here can pronounce it anyway Smiley

Franzl is just the nickname for Franz-Josef.
You're pretty young for a Franz-Josef. Shocked

(Besides, why Joe and not Frank, say?)

That name caused me quite a bit of teasing as a little kid Smiley

The reason my parents called me that is probably because my dad has the same given name...guess that means they couldn't think of anything else Wink

As to the Frank or Joe part....when my parents divorced and my mother and I went to the U.S. when I was 5 years old, my grandpa gave me the choice of Frank or Joe, and I chose Joe, and it's stuck by me ever since. He still uses it, just like everyone else....and I have a strange habit of calling my American grandpa "Opa". I doubt he'd respond to anything else now Smiley

My username is Breton, though my old username was Basque (Euskadi aurreko). My name, Gaël, is a French form of the Breton Gael, derived from Judicaël. Apparently it's derived from gwenn (white) and maël (prince), like Gwenhaël, or alternatively from the Gaels in Scotland and Ireland. More common with girls as Gaëlle.

Most Anglophones I know have never heard the name before, and pronounce it like Gail (instead of Gah-aile). I know it's a girl name and close to "gay", but I've nevertheless never bothered explaining. Such explanation would take months, probably. Though some people (smarter people) have been interested by its significance. A student teacher most recently.

I've stopped seeing it as a pseudonym and started thinking of it as a name.
