After bipartisan opposition talks between FPÖ and Greens (rare, but yes, they took place today) both parties decided to set up a new parliamentary "Eurofighter" investigation committee/inquiry - which will look into the shady dealings of the fighter purchase.

Yeah, Greens and FPÖ really can work together somehow ...

At the joint Green/FPÖ press conference today with Peter Pilz (Greens) and HC Strache (FPÖ), Strache brought some stuffed frogs with him.

A day earlier (when asked why the FPÖ works together with the Greens) he quoted the Brothers Grimm and their fairy tale "The Frog King":

New Gallup poll:

63% of Austrians want Hofer as FPÖ-leader, 37% want Strache (no word about FPÖ-voters only).

Meaningless, because today the FPÖ will have their convention and elect Strache as their leader and frontrunner for the next federal election.

Also: Hofer would only do 1% better than Strache in the federal poll, getting 34% for the FPÖ instead of 33% for Strache.

And if Kurz runs, the ÖVP would win the election:

H.C. Strache re-elected as FPÖ party leader and frontrunner for 2018 at today's FPÖ-convention with 98.7% of delegates.

https://kurier.at/politik/inland/fpoe-parteitag-strache-teilt-gegen-die-medien-aus/249.825.896

That's his best result as party leader during his 12 years so far, up from 96.3% in 2013 and 97.2% in 2009.

Turns out that 4 cinemas in Vienna and Vorarlberg are showing propaganda movies for Turkish dictator Erdogan's referendum ...

http://vorarlberg.orf.at/news/stories/2829068

This made Vorarlberg Governor Wallner (ÖVP) pretty furious: "We don't need cinema spots to stir up unrest in the Austro-Turkish community and we don't need election campaigning by Turkish politicians here. It's impossible that there's a Turkish election campaign that's taken into other countries. We are not a Turkish outpost."

Correct. All election campaigning by Turkish officials should be banned as well as the propaganda movies.

No.

Sad how you ultra-leftists always find ways to legitimize this Islamo-fascist pseudo-dictator Erdogan and his power grabs ...

Frankly, there's no justification that Erdogan "campaigns" in Austria or any other European country. He's the pseudo-dictator of Turkey after all.

If he so badly needs the votes of Turks abroad, he should send them a letter - but stay the f**k out of other countries himself.

And to all the Turks who are living here for 20 years and have still not integrated and who still go out on the streets in Vienna etc. for their beloved pseudo-dictator: Get the f**k out of Austria and home to Turkey, where you belong !

Chancellor Kern (SPÖ) strongly attacks the Turkish dictator Erdogan in today's interview with the German newspaper "Welt am Sonntag".

He demands the immediate release of the German journalist Deniz Yücel, who has been imprisoned by the Islamo-Fascist and also calls for an EU-wide campaign ban of Turkish officials ahead of their power grab referendum in April:

It's more than likely that Pamela Rendi-Wagner (SPÖ) will become the new Health Minister, because she's a high-ranking Health Ministry official and was also a close friend of Sabine Oberhauser:

Yeah, Kern and the SPÖ announced today that she'll become the new Health Minister.

Pamela Rendi-Wagner (SPÖ) was already sworn in as new Minister for Health & Women btw, by President Alexander Van der Bellen on the "International Women's Day" (a pretty fitting date):

In an interview today, Strache (FPÖ-leader) said that he favours registering Turkish voters by name who enter Turkish consulates in Austria ahead of casting their votes.

Following this ID-check, Austrian authorities could then check if these voters have an illegal dual citizenship (Austria and Turkey).

If a voter is found to have a Turkish citizenship and an Austrian one, authorities should revoke the Austrian citizenship:

Not a lot happening here politically right now, except the Erdogan-supporting Austro-Turks (UETD, etc.) complaining how all of their planned events are cancelled by mayors and venue owners because of security concerns ...

In other news, Sebastian Kurz recently said that Austria won't pay a single € more to the EU budget, just because the UK is leaving the club. He rather wants the EU to cut spending and reduce the size of bureaucracy in Brussels to the level without the UK. That is certainly popular with Austrian voters, who see the EU institutions as a gigantic money-wasting black hole ...

Also, the "Kronen Zeitung" (Austria's largest newspaper, read by every 3rd adult daily) has abandoned their pro-FPÖ position that they displayed over the past years or decade. Especially their politics-section editor in chief has now switched over to Sebastian Kurz, while writing negatively about Strache and the FPÖ: He said that Strache looks tired and has his best days behind him already and lacks innovative ideas that would strengthen the FPÖ in the future. He also linked the FPÖ to the Eurofighter corruption back in the 2000s when the FPÖ was in government and mocked Strache's recent position in favour of an EU-army (Strache quickly stepped back again). At the same time, the Krone is now praising Sebastian Kurz as the new voice, closest to the peoples' concerns ...

A Turkish AKP-MP was giving a speech in Vienna yesterday, at a Turkish-owned club - in which he said that Erdogan-critics are terrorists and should be killed with a headshot:

STATISTICS Austria announced today that the number of births in the country reached a 20-year high last year.

More than 88.000 children were born in 2016, that's the highest since 1996.

The birth rate (now at 10.2/1000 people) is the highest since 1998 (and up from about 9/1000 in the mid-2000s).

The birth surplus (+8.000) is also the highest in 20 years.

The death rate remains largely unchanged at about 9/1000 inhabitants.

The number of births is up 4.3% against 2015 and deaths down by 3.7%

Vienna had the highest birth surplus with 5.400, while 4 other states also had a surplus. 4 states still had more deaths than births.

The infant mortality rate also hit a new low of 2.9/1000 new-born.

Austria is slowly going the way of Sweden, because the recent immigrants are pushing up our birth rate and lowering the death rate.

How do migrants have any relation to the death rate?

Migrants in Austria are wayyyyy younger on average than the Austrian population and the migrant women are also much more fertile.

Which means that their birth rates are significantly higher than the Austrian population as a whole and their death rates much lower.

As more foreigners are coming in, the birth rate overall is rising and the death rate is falling.

For 2015 (the last data available, detailed 2016 numbers are only out in May), the numbers were like this:

16.878 births with a non-Austrian citizenship (= 20% of total births)
67.503 births with an Austrian citizenship
84.381 total births

  3.581 deaths with a non-Austrian citizenship (= 4% of total deaths)
79.492 deaths with an Austrian citizenship
83.073 total deaths

...

In 2015, Austria had an annual average of 7.434.393 citizens and 1.195.126 foreigners, for a total population of 8.629.519

...

The birth rate for citizens was: 9.1
The death rate for citizens was: 10.7

The birth rate for non-citizens was: 14.1
The death rate for non-citizens was: 3.0

The birth rate for the total population was: 9.8
The death rate for the total population was: 9.6

Tender, do we have a breakdown of the citizenship of the non-Austrian parents?  Also, interesting to see the illegitimacy birth % by region, with Carinthia on the high side, and Vienna on the low side.

Nope.

I have looked through their website, but didn't find it.

amazing how unpopular Miss Duzdar is....and how popular our leaders are for a change.

Probably a combination of low name recognition and dislike among FPÖ-voters.

The latter is probably also the reason why Van der Bellen still only has a +10 favourable rating now compared with other recent Presidents, who had Kurz-like numbers, or even better ones.
