But rolling back 32 to 40 after this bill was already enacted will make things a lot worse off.

The bill doesn't roll back to 40, it rolls back to 36. 40 was PiT's amendment that just failed.

It allows the regions to roll it back all the way to 40.

No that is the JoMCar amendment presently at vote, not the underlying bill.

I'm talking about what the bill would be under Homcar's amendment.

As the designated Secretary of Labor for the Northeast, I urge the Senate to not increase the cap for regular hours to more than 36. Considering our current economic distress, I don't think now's the time for an increase to 40. I also ask the Senate to consider Senator Barnes post on repealing the entire bill, and hope that someone can introduce an amendment protecting the minimum wage and overtime laws.

The bill as I amended it would allow the Northeast Assembly and your office to regulate the working hours of our region. If you wish to keep the working hours below 40 in the NE, the Assembly would be allowed to do so.

I assume that Senator JoMCaR's amendment has been carried; once that has been certified by the Speaker, I formally introduce the following amendment.

The amendment passed.
24 hours to object to Barnes's amendment.

I will not object to this amendment, due to the fact that it is far more reasonable than previous amendments put forth, but I will not vote for this bill under any circumstances unless it moves the ball forward in terms of working hours. I express some level of disappointment in the Mideastern Senator's approach on this issue - We need more people working, and the rolling back of working hours for working people only raises the amount of people out of work.

That logic didn't do much to reduce unemployment when your distinguished traitor of a predecessor rolled it back to 32 hours late last year. Tongue

My amendment is intended to be a compromise to this flawed attempt at simply rolling back the entire Act. There is already a conservative majority that is prepared to go back to 40 hours, so I do not understand why Senators opposed to that would not try to lower the impact -- that is the point of legislative debate.

I don't think the purpose of this body is to find every bills agreeable center. I think the purpose of this body is to do the best for our people. I don't believe rolling working hours back and forcing people to work more and forcing some people out of the work force all together helps our people. Thus, I vote against it. And I have confidence that the President, whether it is Labor Griffin or Labor bore, will defeat this bill upon arrival on their desk.

Yeah, there is little empirical evidence for lowering the full-time bar increasing employment. It is far clearer that it would hurt those Atlasians who already work by forcing them to work fewer hours under higher stress.

Just back to the point that I was discussing with the Senator for the Midwest, one can be opposed to the bill in its overall form but attempt to lessen it's impact and severity.

I do not envision supporting this bill in its final form, but I will be somewhat pleased that it was at least amended to a less-radical nature.

As far as the action of the President, or current President-elect go, well who knows?  I would assume that either gentlemen would not sign this bill, but I do not think we should simply abdicate any semblance of the legislative process on that assumption.

Though not quite as much of an improvement as I would have preferred, I do like that the new text does at least move the ball forward in some ways towards unleashing our economy from the shackles of two years of excessive regulations, the results of which have been painfully obvious, economically speaking, for some time.
