With a half decent challenger, Young would be the Lee Terry of 2016.

Begich ought to try and take out Young instead. It would be an easier race on the whole.

Has there ever been a U.S. Senator who has then elected to the U.S. House?

Begich has two strikes against him - (1) the Republican presidential victory in Alaska in 2016 is going to make it harder for him to unseat Murkowski.

He won in 2008, when McCain/Palin were winning 59/37.

And be out of politics for six years? Ask George Allen how that worked out.

You do realize that few politicians ever "get out of politics", even if they loose re-election or retire?
