According to this poll George W. Bush has 29%-69% approval rating, yet Jon Corzine has a worse one: 28%-71%.  Surely the latter cannot be the case?

Yes it can.  He is very highly disliked.  I would bet those are pretty accurate numbers.

I don't know.  I'm not surprised to see him upside down, but worse-than-George-Bush is a little bit too harsh, I think.

A quinnipiac poll last week had him something like 46-42....newspapers say he's pretty popular for a NJ governor. But you're also reading the poll wrong.

Governor Jon Corzine, who signed the bill eliminating the death penalty, gets a lukewarm reception from New Jersey voters. Just 28% say he’s doing a good or an excellent job, down six points since October. Thirty percent (30%) now rate his performance as poor. A plurality of 41% say he's doing a Fair job.

Thirty-four percent (34%) say Governor Corzine is doing a good or excellent job while 30% give him poor marks. In between are 33% who say he’s doing a fair job.

Things could be worse for the Governor--53% of New Jersey voters say President Bush is doing a Poor job.

According to 72%, New Jersey police officers should routinely check whether a driver pulled over on a traffic violation is in the country legally. Fifty-eight percent (58%) say anyone thus discovered to be here illegally should be deported.

Fifty-eight percent (58%) favor a bill that would allow supermarkets to sell alcohol, 31% oppose it. For almost fifty years such sales have been banned in New Jersey, although they are legal in most other states.

No chance of Lautenberg being primaried, huh?

Sadly, no.  Lautenberg is going to limp to a fifth term with a ten point win, like usual.

A 'Fair' assessment of a politician is usually rounded up with the 'Poor' approvals.

Yes, but Conan is right to point out that the 28% is with the death penalty reform mentioned. 33% is his actual approval rating (not much better, but not so bad).

Oh, and, for the record, unless Estabrook said or did something really stupid, I'd vote for her over Lautenberg.

You haven't been reading the Ledger lately have you? Lautenberg doesn't limp! He sprints!

That was the same line I got all through 2006.  I have no idea why it'd change now.

Really, though—the age issue is related to Lautenberg's mental acuity (and an interpolation thereof of his sharpness in the year 2014), not whether or not the guy can do one-handed push ups.

Lautenberg is an excellent Senator and a consistently progressive voice.
