For Pennsylvania: Philadelphia
For New York: Brooklyn

Okay, that was boring, of course I'm going to vote for the cities.  Second place in PA would probably be Montgomery (yawn) and in NY let's disqualify the rest of NYC just to make things interesting, and say Saratoga.  Saratoga Springs is a really, really nice town.

As for NJ?  I dunno, my urbanist side wants to say Hudson, while my nostalgic side wants to say Cape May.  Mercer's good, too.

MY GOODNESS!  You take that red avatar down right now, mister!

My family used to take vacations down to Cape May every year when I was in elementary school, so that area is filled with good memories.  I didn't say I like their politics (or their Eagles fandom), cause I don't.

I was hoping, and had faith, that you would same that.  Same here.  Avalon every year.  Wonderful memories.  But you have to enjoy it the way someone with some perspective should.

1.  I make sure I'm only nice to the renters that were at LEAST 5 blocks from the beach.  Lugging your crap to the beach is a huge part of being at the Jersey Shore.  Everyone else gets a heaping load of attitude.

2. When you get to the more expensive properties... frequently make yourself stumble onto the rocks (you know how the "lawns" are just rocks, right?  Just making sure.) and kick as many as you can onto the sidewalk.  That increases the chances the owner will get a citation.

3. Climb the cheap wooden fences into the dunes and scream and play in front of the beachfront properties as much as possible.  Obviously it's bonus points if the owners are outside, staring at the beach and pretending to be "deep".  Don't leave until the authorities threaten arrest... at first they'll just tell you to leave.

4. Never, EVER get a beach pass.  Are you kidding me?

5. Nightime bonfires are a must.  Once again... bonus points for loudness and obnoxiousness.

6. If you are renting from a rich stranger  (obviously because their $500,000 Cape May property isn't fancy-shmancy enough for the summer) make sure you are friends on Facebook with them.  Tag as many pictures of the house parties you threw in your week down there with your friends Jamal and Giancarlo, who you met in Wildwood.

7. Don't DESTROY anything in the property you are renting.  The courts down there will not be friendly to you.  Be sure to step up to the line though.  Some beer cans left behind the couch and marijuana ash on the coffee table should be sufficient.

8. Leave a couple Obama bumper stickers you got at the boardwalk in the nightstand drawer.

And that my friend is how a Democrat enjoys a week down in Cape May.

We would just stay in one of those motels along the beach in Cape May (the city itself).  I always looked forward to the skee-ball and the mini golf and the food (both highbrow and lowbrow) more than the beach itself.  Back then, politics was not exactly at the forefront of my mind, and neither was beer. Tongue

You are truly a better man than I, sir.  That is one of the most freedom statements ever made on this forum.  To the Good Post Gallery I go.

Not Orleans, Miles?  Are you not a 21?

I mean... I loved the entire N.O. area, I actually stayed in a church in St. Rose when I was down there helping out with the Katrina rebuild, but Orleans Parish was a joy to my heart.

Looks like some people have not read the original post.

...that voted for the other party's presidential nominee in 2004?

In NC, I'll say Wake.

Edit for 2008 (post-2008 members use 2008), New Hanover.

Edit for 2012 (post-2012 members use 2012), I'll stay with New Hanover.

Oh... well in THAT case, yea, Cape May.

Stearns. It's in Michele Bachmann's district and has a lot of awful places in the rural parts and even a lot of ugly sprawl type junk, but at least St. Cloud proper is generally liberal and is big and urban enough to have some desirable amenities.

Yeah, Cape May obviously stands for NJ.

In PA: Probably Wayne.  We had band camp up there a couple years when I was in high school, and I remember the bus going through Honesdale on the way and thinking it seemed like a lovely little town.

In NY: I'm not sure I've ever spent enough time in any Romney county to really get a good sense; if we went with McCain counties there is Staten Island, but ugh I am not voting for that thing even if a couple of the neighborhoods near the ferry seem nice.  Spent some small amount of time in Delaware and Putnam and a few around the Hudson Valley/Catskills, but I can't remember them all that well.

I'm tempted to say Chautauqua because they're home to one of the best microbreweries around.

I've heard good things about Cape May. I have a few friends down there, should probably get down.

I've been to Wildwood though, and it's sick.

Kings County, obviously.  Although, there's like 70% of it that I never set foot in.

I've only gone south of Linden to take a standardized test and for a trip to Coney Island.  I only go east of Ralph Ave when I've gone for a long bike ride.

But Orleans and I both voted for Democratic. If this were just for my favorite parish, it would easily be Orleans.

I picked Jefferson since it voted for the opposite nominee and I grew up around it. I'm from a part of Orleans Parish right across the border from Jefferson Parish. Metairie, the neighborhood in Jefferson I grew up by, is basically one of the whiter, suburban parts of the metro area, so its kinda bland in that sense, but its home.

I actually refuse to drink any alcoholic drinks, I'm a very picky eater and I don't like going out to party. 'Not something you'd expect from a New Orleanian!

Wow, thats great. Volunteers like you have helped the city a lot; we really appreciate it.

I thought the thread was simply "Favorite county in your state".  Everything but Orleans Parish voted for Bush, but I loved all of Greater New Orleans.  Definitely my favorite conservative area, they were all very nice despite that I was wearing my New York Mets hat the entire time.

Probably Saginaw, Bay, or Genesee.  Shiawassee and Oakland would probably be up there too, though.

The simplest answer would probably have to be my own, of course, which hasn't voted for a Republican for president since 1984.

CORRECTION: I didn't realize you meant counties that voted for the opposing party candidate.

OH: Cuyahoga (though I feel slightly guilty not picking Erie being born and raised there)
WI: Well, Dane should be as its the only place I've ever lived here in Wisconsin, but I suspect Milwaukee would be a better fit for me in the long term.

Since I've never lived in a county that voted for my party's candidate, that part is easy Tongue
