Hi. I sent out some PMs, and some are still interested in having a convention, so here it goes.

Feel free to discuss candidates for the upcoming election, as well as what direction this party will take following recent events.

In related news, I am opening an exploratory committee for the upcoming senatorial elections.

Oh, that is some great news. Smiley

I sent PMs to Barnes and Bacon King a couple days ago to see if they're planning to run again, but I haven't heard back. I kind of doubt BK will, though I'm not sure about Barnes.

I find the formation of the UDL to be a positive new direction for the Atlasian left wing.  While I will not be joining the new party, it is my hope that our two parties will work together on a great many things in the months to come.

That being said, I declare my candidacy for Vice Chairman of the JCP.

If I'm reading the bylaws correctly, the chairman (moi!) can appoint a replacement for the remainder of a term due to a vacancy. I think that term technically goes through February...

If I can serve as Secretary and Whip simultaneously I'll do so, just to tide us over. *shrug*

Well, that's technically against the current bylaws, but I know I wouldn't mind if you performed both roles simultaneously unofficially! Obviously we designed the party offices when we had a larger active base. Now that things have changed, it may make sense to re-structure it as Snowguy suggested to reflect our smaller party. Hopefully Arch will come back! The JCP could definitely use some more active members if competition is truly the goal of this split.

I hope Barnes is okay. He could very well jump ship, though. But given the number of candidates on the UDL side, it may benefit him to stick with us! Tongue

Bacon King has been online and hasn't responded to me or anything Atlasia-related, so I think it's safe to assume he will not be running for re-election. Feel free to correct me if you're still watching, BK.

I for one would happily support a Lief candidacy! Anyone else want to run? I'm fairly confident we should be able to keep at least one of our at-large seats. We could go ahead and shoot for a second, if someone wants to try. Smiley

I'm running for reelection.

Sorry, I've been insanely busy with final papers and such right now, and while I have been on the Atlas it was only as momentary distractions to my essay-writing. After the next week or two, however, I'll have no activity problems Smiley

Cool! Cheesy

We do have by-laws:

Quote
You must be logged in to read this quote.

lol, this is what I was reading:

J. If any Party Official leaves the Jesus Christ Party, is removed from the Jesus Christ Party, or does not post on the Atlas forum for twenty days without a prior declaration of his absence, they are immediately removed from his Party Office.

K. Should an official be removed from office, the Party Chairman will then appoint a replacement for the remainder of the term. If the ousted official is the Party Chairman, then the Vice-Chair will replace them.

They definitely conflict (or are overly vague at least). What do you guys want to do? I have no strong preference either way. Grin

Right, so I think our objectives should be fairly evident -

1) Appointing people to vacant party positions.

Of course. Anyone who wants the remaining open position could probably have it. Tongue

Oakvale, I suppose Pacific Chairman is also open again--I would happily let you have it, if you like (though I would love to see Arch return and take it back Tongue). Alternatively, I could fill the position with myself (lol) if nobody else wants it. Grin

I like to wait as long as possible, given the rather late deadline for declaring. Lief just declared, for example! I'll open endorsement voting on Monday at the latest.

Personally, I would like to see the JCP remain a big tent party for anyone left of center.

I would like to open the convention floor to non-JCP candidates seeking our party's endorsement.  Would that be acceptable, Mr. Chairman?

Absolutely.

Okay, well I added them to the ballot just for you. Smiley

It can be hard to keep track of the races in all the other regions, though. Tongue

Good to know bgwah prefers to stay in a state of anger on UDL-ers.

Perhaps your candidates should bother coming in and asking for an endorsement next time.

I'd be glad to receive the JCP's third preference. I've been a longtime JCPer and I would have no problem working with other JCP Senators. Smiley

Roll Eyes

I was referring to opening the floor for non-JCP candidates, during which you remained silent.

If (just if) your strategy is to shut down any possibility of cooperation between the two major left-wing parties, in a hope that we'll in time give up and we'll return under your leadership,

drats, my diabolical plot has been uncovered! Tongue

Oh, bgwah, it's funny you send an in-deepth response to what I posted here publicly via PM Tongue

I'm happy to answer any questions, I just don't want to risk derailing the convention while we're having a vote.

The PPT has a very important question for the JCP (or what's left of it that is)

WHY THE HELL CAN'T YOUR SENATOR'S STAY ACTIVE?

Thank you for your time,
NC Yankee

I think a lot of us are worried about him at this point. Not as a Senator but as a regular poster who hasn't posted in a while.

Well, I think we've assumed he won't be running for re-election... Not that there is much time left to do so anyway.

1-2) Lief
3) Antonio
4) Junkie
5) Phil/Ben/Sewer

Pacific Governor

I counted by hand and got a 3-way tie for preference #5. I used a program and it says Phil won preference #5, but we didn't really specify any tie-breaking procedures, so *shrug*

I've always like star symbols, and they're rarely used by other parties. Green is of course our party color and should be featured prominently! Grin

Well, we won twice as many seats as anyone else. I suppose we're definitely still a viable party, then. Smiley

Hey guys,

With the recent amendment, we now get to appoint a member to the now vacated seat once held by Barnes for the remainder of his term.

Considering Lief was just elected to this seat, I'm pretty sure nobody would object to me just going ahead and appointing him to it, but I'll go ahead and wait until tomorrow in case of the small possibility that someone would object to such a move.

It may be a good idea to set some sort standard (by amending the bylaws, perhaps?) for appointing a replacement when there isn't such an obvious successor to the seat, though.
