I can't figure out how to post a map, but it ends up along these lines:
Hillary runs with a Southerner (Edwards) and campaigns heavily there and in the midwest. Bloomberg gets a Southerner too, but they never crack 25% support anywhere.
The result? Guiliani delivers the Northeast by the slimmest of margins, while McCain brings in the Southwest. The South and the Midwest, on the other hand, get split so much by Bloomberg, that the Dems make huge gains. GA, NC, LA, AK, MI, and TN all go for the Dems but an equally slim margin as the Northeast.
