I'm leaning towards supporting this. My only worry would be the burden the RG may face keeping track of such voters, but it probably would be easier than I'm thinking...

Well the RG does keep track of when moves by voters become effective.

I said it before that I'm not a big fan of this proposal.

But anyway, something is missing in this proposal. There must be a time limit be set up when the poster must have the 75 posts. After this time he will be removed from the Pre-registration list.

I would suggest a time limit of a month.

I agree, there should a be a time limit. Being on the "Pre-registration list" should be for an eternity in length.

I don't like the pre-registration thread idea.  It would be minimally used, create another complexity for newbies (I think we're tring to make things easier?), and there are already too many stickied threads.

I don't think this would be overly difficult for the RG to manage.  Just add a note in the comments section, saying something like "registration valid when 75 posts attained".  Then it would have to be checked when updates are made.  I really don't think there would  be a large number of these.

Agreed.

Perhaps in order to make the job easier for the registrar general, we could create a stickied thread titled "intent to register" which does not actually mean registration, but indicates that a poster on Atlas intends to register in Atlasia upon his or her fulfilling of the citizenship requirements.

This keeps the list loose-based and removes most responsibility from the registrar general while also giving Atlasians a general idea of which new users are showing interest.

If the intention to register was also included with a party, that party could send a friendly reminder to the user when he or she nears his or her fulfillment requirements.

Do you plan to persue this via amendment?

I don't think that we get more members with it. But when you (the Senators) want to make something like this, then is the a Pre-Registration-List managed by the RG better than a new thread. This would make process of the Registration more complicated. The Pre-Registration-List only will make the life of the RG not easier Wink

okay, that does mean you oppose snowguy's amendment?

The amendment has passed and regular debate has resumed?

Is there any other business to come before the Senate on this bill?

Nay.

I support having restrictions of some kind but I think this bill has lost any potential marginal benefits it might have possessed at one point.

Could we see what this bill being voted on looks like, as amended?  I don't think the final version was ever posted.

https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=127988.msg2727841#msg2727841

Its right here.

I don't post an "as amended version" if its already on the same page as where I start a final vote. Granted he didn't put it in quote boxes so it was hard to dissect from the post.

This bill has enough votes to fail, Senators have 24 hours to change their votes.

Would Senators be more likely to vote for this act if a clause was added that required the member to have attained the amount of posts within a certain period of time after registering to Atlasia? That way, you wouldn't have someone hitting the requirements, let's say, a year after registering. Possibly a month or so?

The current text of the bill doesn't even include at automatic validation of these people once they meet the requirements.

It also, has the pre-registration thread demanded by the RG.

The problem is the bill creates a second thread for no purpose other then giving them the joy of practicing their registration. They have to register after meeting the requirements just like they do now. So the bill lost its original purpose via amendment.

A time constrain would have been a postive addition to the bill and would have made me more willing to support it. The original purpose would have had to have been maintained though.

I understand your problem with it, and don't blame you for voting nay on this version. I hope the Senate will consider making the necessary amendments to get this passed and actually useful, because I think the purpose of this is very good.

I am afraid this bill will not be amended anymore as it has been murdered in a most brutal fashion.

A future action on the matter will require a new bill.
