I believe this bill would allow us to increase transparency in a way that actually matters since it'll essentially neutralize the efforts of those who would sneak wasteful spending into seemingly inoffensive bills.  Furthermore, Atlasians have a right to know how their tax dollars are being spent!

How would each person's tax contribution be determined? Just income tax? Income and property? Would sales taxes only be dealt with separately?

Also, what month would this be done in? Usually the budget comes out in January or Febuary. Would it be done early with a new budget and old tax number or later with an older budget and newer tax numbers?

I'd think all taxes would be included in the receipts (i.e. not just income and property taxes).  As for the second question, I think sending the receipts later with an older budget and newer tax numbers makes the most sense, but I'm open to doing it the other way if folks think that makes more sense.

The transparency advocate in me believes this is mostly a good idea, but I wonder how many people are going to actually read it.

True, you'll have plenty who don't read it, but I think you'll still have enough people do to make it worthwhile.

How would you calculate each individuals sales tax contribution? I know it doesn't really matter, but I'm not sure that kind of tax number is around anywhere. Maybe just assign everyone the mean?

If that number isn't around, then what you described is probably the next best thing.

Should the bill be amended to reflect this?

Didn't see this, sorry; yes, it should be amended to reflect that.

Would anyone like to propose an amendment?

I'm not sure how exactly the amendment should be worded, otherwise I'd do it.  Would you or Dereich mind writing one up?

How many people would read this? Maybe just make it available upon request?

I think that many people would only read it if it was actually sent to them.
