Hey all,

I felt like we needed to move the discussion of the initiatives from the RPP thread to a thread more accessible to all the citizens of the Dirty South. Feel free to propose and debate anything on your minds for inclusion on the October ballot. I've currently proposed to relocate the capital of the Dirty South to Charleston, South Carolina and to replace the flag with a new design. I realize that it isn't cheap to relocate, but I feel like the city of Charleston represents everything the Dirty South stands for. We've had a rich history of standing up for region's rights, and Charleston was the center of the fight for state's rights in the 1800's. Also, the move is one of symbolism. This region has gone from nothing to something in a short period of time. We've gone from the laughing stock of Atlasia to one of the largest and most active. I'm proud of the team that has worked with me to make this all happen. Moving the capital to Charleston would represent the region coming full circle. We will finally have a completely new face in a completely new city with a history of standing up for things they hold dear.

The Flag change is also up for debate about first, whether we actually want to do it, and second, what it would look like. My proposal is in my signature and looks like the South Carolina flag. I'm all for having the Palmetto tree and crescent moon, but whether the background is blue or not is less important. Please consider these and propose whatever else you wish. This thread will run until the elections this month.

Dirty South Flag Act  of 2008

1. Effective immediately following the passage of this law by vote of the region's citizens, the flag of the Dirty South will change from the current generic flag to a design [consisting of a navy background with the Palmetto tree and crescent moon in the center].

Dirty South Capitol Relocation Act

1. Effective immediately following the passage of this law by the votes of the region's citizens, the capitol city of the Dirty South will be relocated from Memphis, Tennessee to Charleston, South Carolina, and the funds for building a Governor's Plantation will be up for debate.

** Things in brackets are up for debate.

Also, Duke, I believe you mentioned something about the region's finances in the RPP thread. If it's alright with you I'd like to try my hand at creating a new budget. No guarantees but I think I could do it.

Go ahead.

We need the Palmetto tree in it. Nothing is more southern that the palmetto tree. Plus, that looks like a Muslim flag instead of a southern flag.

To get back to the flag design, here is a "Flags of the Confederacy" website, it could help us come up with a general design for a new flag.

http://www.confederateflags.org/

As much as I love the confederate flag, I'm afraid it will offend too many people is we bring it back as our regional flag.

If you flip the crescent moon, it would look pretty good. Let me see if I can make some mockups on Photoshop and see what ya'll think..

Wow. I just found the Wiki site and someone really needs to update my page. It says I just got appointed governor and I was the only active member of the National Conservative Party, led by kingofthebenchpress.

We have a lot of pages which are outdated. A lot of us need to get busy writing some updates.

Dirty South Wiki Page Update

1. The government will appoint a commission to write and update the pages of the Wiki pertaining to the affairs of the Dirty South. The commission will be by volunteer.

2. This initiative will to be complete by January 2009.

Alright, so here's an idea for the Dirty South's new flag. The red represents the blood shed fighting for states/region's rights. Let me know what you all think about it, or if it's too much like the South Carolina flag for ya'll tastes.

How about we add gold and black stripes to the flag, to signify sound money and anti-authoritarianism?

How would you like these stripes to be situated? I'll make another mockup.

What needs to be done with the stripes? I like them because that's my school's colors. ...

Why won't you join the RPP, DC UNITED? We'll be that much closer to #1.

We have a few Democrats and Libertarians/Constitutionalists. You'd feel more loved in our party rather than being all alone in yours.

Sorry to butt in, but the diagonal lines don't work, particularly the one near the moon.

I don't really like the lines myself, but I am having a hard time placing them on the flag. I was thinking that I could outline the crescent moon in gold and black. That would take a while, though.

The dark red symbolizes the blood of the soldiers who died righting for southern rights.

Dark khaki? I kind of wanted to keep the RPP colors seperate from the Dirty South as a whole.

We could say that we're using it because it's Wake Forest's color. Evil Anyway, how about a dark blue ground to symbolize conservatism?

Wake's colors are black and gold, not dark khaki. We could use dark blue, but then we'd just have the original SC flag. That's fine by me, of course. SPC said we needed black and gold on the flag.

Here's another mockup. There are slight black traces in the trees, and the base of the tree is gold. This is less tacky looking.

I like it. Will a flag proposal be on the ballot tomorrow?

Some form of it. I assume since we've received most of the input here, I'll just put this design up for a vote rather than have an open ended initiative to continue working on it.

I'm also debating whether I want to put the capital relocation act on the ballot or not. I've been told there will be a lot of resistance from the old timers. I might just put it up and if it's defeated then I'll keep my headquarters in Memphis, as much as I detest the city and think a coastal setting would much better serve the region.

Final mockup before the vote. I tried to lessen the black outlines on the tree leaves.

I can work longer on it after the vote, if it passes to make it less thick. That will take me a while to do.

Try the reverse with the black or blue lines. You kept the ones I suggest dumping, and dumped the ones I suggest keeping. Smiley Or you did a general lessening I guess without distinction. Maybe your software is not robust or something.

Woops. I thought you wanted me to get rid of the ones I removed. I'm using Photoshop, so it's about as robust as you can get. I can get those old lines back.
