In light of the video scandal, many people, including prominent Republicans, left the Trump camp. The Republican party has discussed ways to replace Trump with another Republican, but it seems that it is too late to change his name on the ballot. The party is stuck with Trump.

What if Trump tries to win back the votes of these disaffected Republicans by saying that once elected president, he would resign and have Mike Pence become president? He secretly plans to fall back on his promise and instead serve as president himself. Would NeverTrump Republicans vote for him thinking that they are effectively choosing Mike Pence, or would they not trust him?

The Alt-Right types don't like Pence though, so this might lose as many votes as it gains.

That would anger his fan base a lot more than it would satisfy NeverTrump GOP. It's a net loss for him. He'd never do that.

It might win over a few people, but it will also make things worse once Clinton starts airing ads against Pence. There's a LOT of material to work with there.

The Alt-Right types are not anywhere near as numerous as NeverTrump Republicans, though.

Even assuming I want Pence in office over Clinton or Johnson (not sure if I do or not), I don't see how anyone could trust Trump to respect such a promise when we can't trust him to follow the basic principles of respect. So no. I'd still vote for Johnson.

No, Trump now has as good a chance of winning over a significant number of #NeverTrump Republicans as Hillary has of getting Trump's insane alt-right base to vote for her. Zero. Matter of fact, he'll be lucky to even convince them not to vote Hillary.

The only way Trump can win me over is by dropping out of the race and putting Kasich as the GOP nominee instead.

I likely would have voted for Pence vs. Clinton prior to all this Trump nonsense, but him choosing to be associated with Trump by being his running mate makes me not want to vote for him either now. I wouldn't trust Trump to keep his promise anyway.
