Approximately 50% of cases being decided 9-0 since 2009. Court continuing to rule in favor of freedom, and though this seems like a very minor issue, I find it extraordinarily important considering the conditions inmates are traditionally subjected to in this country to remove any aspect of humanity and individuality.

And I'm even sicker of the counter-argument "Oh, a truly religious person, wouldn't have committed such a severe crime." Probably some truth to that, but a) this goes beyond freedom of religion. That's just the stepping stone used to pass the right decision; and b) how are you holier to pass that judgment.

It gets even worse when people honestly think this belongs as part of the punishment.

Excellent decision and good to see it's a unanimous one as well.

Very good to see.  Religious freedom, whether for Christians, Muslims or the unaffiliated, must always be respected.

Religious freedom is important - as long as it doesn't impinge on another's freedoms, then good.

Considering that inmates may need religion as part of their rehabilitation and know it, this is right.

If there isn't a genuinely good reason for restricting freedom that can't be done with other methods, then freedom stands.  Good to see the SC agrees.

The sort of decision with which most people might agree. Though, frankly, I do not see why would one even need a religion to be allowed to keep a short beard in prison.

Note this doesn't depend directly on the 1st amendment.  This decision was only made because the Federal Government passed a law that gets panned as anti-gay every time a state legislature tries to pass something similar.

The idea that we can infringe on someone's expression as a punishment for committing a crime sounds like something out of 1984. I know it isn't a perfect analogy or even a great one, but the right to your own beliefs has to be something unalienable. To not permit such is dehumanizing.

Lolz. Not only that, but a law Chuck Schumer wanted to gut last year after the Hobby Lobby case. Glad that its a good law again.
