The French system is far from perfect either. Medical prices have been rising pretty fast in recent decades, since doctors and pharmaceutical companies know that government will cover most of these expenses. Of course it's still miles ahead of the US, but I'd say eliminating the middle man (private health care providers) like the UK did is more effective, at least in theory.
