The mission itself, regardless who ordered it/who won last November, was a stunning success. I think everyone agrees on that at least. I wish we hadn't done it, of course, but I'm glad it wasn't botched.

The objective wasn't to destroy the base, or the runway. Just some hangars, weapon depots, fuel depots. They purposely decided not to destroy the runway.

Because it's not very easy to do so. The Sputnik news agency has photographs of some of the damage; a number of aircraft were destroyed - probably ones in lower states of readiness i.e. not ready to leave given whatever level of warning there was.

I also think the Syrians and Russians made an educated guess that it was the target and moved a lot of stuff out earlier.

I find it hilariously ironic that many of the people in the Dem establishment and GOP  neo-Cons who have been heavily hinting that Trump is literally Hitler are how supporting him because of this. They unjustly suggested he was literally Hitler because he's ordering the enforcement of the US's immigration laws (which presidents are supposed to do). He's literally Hitler because he criticises his critics in the media (just like any political leader would, just in his more blunt way).

Now he's OK because he's ordered the launch of some cruise missiles. Remind me of the name of the first head of government to order cruise missile attacks (clue, the launch was in 1944 and the missile was called the V1).
