Nearly a decade older than Hillary Clinton, he would be a candidate where his VP selection was not only important, but absolutely critical to his campaign.  I don't think you could reasonably predict how he would do without knowing who his VP selection was.

How about Kirsten Gillibrand?

are you sure you posted this on the right board?

please refer to the 'past election what ifs' for posts about 1976 and 1980 presidential races.

If he was younger, definitely Moonbeam. But realistically, his VP choice would be important to know.

Any 'generic Republican' could easily cast Brown as a typical tax & spend liberal and California's economy is nothing to brag about with one of the highest unemployment rates in the country, highest taxes, and worst business climate, he would come as a California liberal to the rest of the nation and would lose big in the Midwest & South.

I think that you have completely ignored the record of Governor Moonbeam. This man would have decades of experience, with a strong know how on dealing with adverse political forces and with a great ability of seeing things done. It's true that California has a strong unemployment level but Jerry Brown was able to reduce it and even more, he has done that while making a pension reform, balancing budgets and achieving public support to rescue public education. He could present himself as a deal-breaker, who make things work and that would improve. Jerry Brown us not just a simple California Liberal like Nancy Pelosi, he is a Progressive Leadership with some libertarian flavors and with a strong willingness to see things working.

Yeah, we're just terrible for commerce. No ever ever tries to start a company in San Francisco or San Jose......

Here there are some of my suggestions: Mark Udall (Experienced Man, Civil Liberties Guy and younger then Clinton), Michael Bennet (young one but doesn't add much), Kirsten Gilibrand (young one and adds a lot for Jerry Brown) , Amy Kloubachar (Would be 56 years old and it would have a lot of foreign policy experience),  Brian Schweitzer (Nah...), Martin Heinrich (very young, would be 46) and Sherrod Brown.

Jerry Brown over a generic Republican, but it would definitely be dependent on what Republican runs.
