OFFICIAL RESULTS

AT-LARGE SENATE

HAGRIDOFTHEDEEP is elected At-Large Senator.
MR. X is elected At-Large Senator.
NAPOLEON is elected At-Large Senator.
KALWEJT is elected At-Large Senator.
MAXQUE is elected At-Large Senator.

There was a total turnout of 139 votes, with 5 ballot papers being rejected.

I, Homelycooking, Secretary of Federal Elections, declare the above results to be a complete and accurate summary of the votes cast.

I've adopted a more "user-friendly" method of reporting election results.

Not trying to be a dick, but while this is a nice as a supplement in elections (such as this one) with complex transfers, it can't really replace the full table with the names and all.

Just for one thing, they're necessary for any quick error-spotting on the part of the populace. (Yeah, yeah, I know 'news sources' provide them. But I tend not to trust their counts overly much. The SoFE's on the other hand...)

No, that's a fair point. I didn't put together the usual report because it takes me so long to do so, and I didn't get the sense that it was of much use to anyone.

I've been trying to think of a way to better display the results so as to show the actual transfers of individual votes. The old way gave you all the necessary information, but within an impenetrable block of text. The table is clean and effective, but it leaves out the actual voters' positions in the various ballots.

Well, as long as you don't make (or are accused of making) any errors, strictly speaking it is of no use. Azn

I apologize, what I said above was a lame attempt at trolling. I don't actually care about my ballot. Thank you homely for all the hard work you do, sorry to cause more of a headache :/

Just out of curiosity, would the results of the election be different if drj101's vote were counted as 1st preference for Alfred?  It looks like that would have put Alfred and Kalwejt into a tie, which I presume would have to be broken by counting second-preference votes.

Actually, that would've made Alfred one vote ahead of Kalwejt, thus Kalwejt is eliminated, and I think the Senate looks more like:

Hagrid, MaxQue, Napoleon, Mr. X, Matt

Though I could be wrong.

You are wrong. Tongue They were tied after drj vote transfers. Smiley The tiebreaker would then be second prefeences which Kalwejt wins 19-17 I believe.

So, if Alfred had more second preferences than Kalwejt, you would be right. Matt would be elected. But in this case, it doesn't matter which tie breaker is used. "Status on the preceding count" is the first tiebreaker though.

Homely, what about uploading a spreadsheet to Google Docs? Would that be workable?

I'll experiment with that.

My concern through all of this has been that I cannot take "joke" write-ins as a joke. I either must count them (in some way) or throw them out. If you don't want to cause headaches, I merely request that you not cast joke write-ins!

REPUBLIC OF ATLASIA - In Dave We Trust
Sample Ballot

This election is held in accordance with the 7th and 16th Amendments to the Constitution and with the Consolidated Electoral System Reform Act.

DO NOT EDIT OR DELETE THE POST CONTAINING YOUR BALLOT IN ANY WAY AFTER 20 MINUTES OF ITS BEING POSTED OR YOUR VOTE WILL BE INVALIDATED

The act of campaigning within the election booth is strictly forbidden and will render void any votes made by those who campaign. The act of campaigning is considered to include, but is not limited to, strong attempts to compel others either to vote or not to vote for one or multiple candidates, or other related activities that could reasonably be construed as a direct attempt to influence how future voters cast their ballots. In other words, this is not a discussion thread. In short, the department will be taking a liberal interpreation of this, so Keep posts to votes only.

Vote "yes" or "no" on the following referendum question. If any other mark or attempt to order the candidates is made, the Department of Federal Elections will make every effort to deduce voter intent from the content of the ballot, but the warning must be issued that failure to follow the above instructions may result in the invalidation of your ballot in the event of an inability to discern voter intent.  You are an eligible voter in general if you were registered to vote on or before the proper date, and if you made 15 posts in any location within the Atlas Forum in the 8 weeks prior to the commencement of the regular election. In other words, if your name appears on the Census list, you can presume you are eligible.

Note that voting begins at midnight and ends in exactly 72 hours.

QUESTION no. 1

Shall the following initiative be adopted as law?

Doesn't the election begins in 5 days, too, precluding any absentee voting?
