Suppose there is no 22nd Amendment and Nixon runs in 1976. He runs while under continued investigation for the Watergate scandal and lowered popularity. No official articles of impeachment have been passed. George McGovern seeks the democratic nomination yet again and wins on a sort of "Look what happened, I told ya so" type theme. He still carries the liberal themes of 1972.

Discuss outcome with maps....

This scenario's obviously inherently implausible, but Nixon wouldn't be nominated, so, eh.

The preferable option.

I'd like to see a McGovern vs. Ford thread. I think that he can get a victory because he would be a better campaigner than Carter, even without South.

McGovern almost takes it, but not quite.

President Richard Nixon/Vice President Gerald Ford              289
Senator George McGovern/Boston Mayor Kevin White          249
