I'm thinking that if by some chance Palin becomes the nominee and something happens in the next year to make him actually popular instead of the mid-40s approvals he has now, she would lose all 50 states.

If Republicans want to win Utah, they must nominate Romney.

The most interesting part of the poll is that if all the Mormons would leave Utah, Utah would become California 2.0

I played around with the 2008 exit polls once... "Other" (mostly Mormons) were approximately 4/5 McCain, while everyone else was 4/5 Obama. It's an extremely polarized state.

So much for my prediction that President Obama would win against any Republican other than Romney. It's a virtual tie between President Obama and Sarah Palin... which, in view of a 32% approval rating suggests how unready Sarah Palin is to be President. She would lose the state if nominated -- if many Romney supporters stay home.

Obama vs. Romney

Obama vs. Bachmann

Obama vs. Palin

Obama vs. Pawlenty

Favorite Sons:

Obama vs. local favorite sons

DeMint -- South Carolina
Santorum -- Pennsylvania
Romney -- Michigan and New Hampshire
Pawlenty -- Minnesota
Thune -- South Dakota
Gingrich -- Georgia
Christie -- New Jersey
Bachmann -- Minnesota (but I am showing her in Iowa instead because of Pawlenty)
Palin -- Arizona (she is allegedly moving there) and Alaska
Perry -- Texas
Cain -- Georgia (but I will show him in North Carolina)
Ron Paul -- Texas (but I will show him in Oklahoma for this purpose
Daniels -- Indiana (if the state is ever polled)
Johnson -- New Mexico
McCotter -- Michigan (but I will show him in Ohio for this purpose)
Huntsman -- Utah (but I show him in Idaho)

LoL LoL LoL LoL, Pbrower wasn't wrong (I actually thought he could be right, and that's why I didn't say nothing) when he said Utah could go for Obama. Palin leading by 2%? hjahahahahaha..
the question right now is: if she's nominated (won't happen, unfortunately), will she have better or worse results than Goldwatter?

She'd still win Oklahoma and Alabama

I'm guessing non-Mormons are Democratic mostly because Mormons are so Republican. If the Mormon population collapsed, the state would probably end up voting like Colorado.

The number of Mormons by percent in Utah has been on the decline and losing about .5% every year. In 2004, the percentage of Mormons in Utah was 62%. In 2007, it was 60%. Now, in 2011 it is at about 58%. According to an article in the Salt Lake City Tribune, Mormons should be under 50% by 2030.

The bad news for Mormons doesn't stop there. Many of the younger Mormons are not true Mormons at all. They are "Jack Mormons". Jack Mormons drink Jack Daniels (Even on Sundays) and smoke reefer.

Pawlenty's numbers are pretty fun too. Nobody likes and/or cares about that guy, huh?

Well, it's clear to me now. Democrats oppose abortion, support a flat tax, and the Ryan reforms. Ok, so  now Huntsman ought to be a Democrat.

Utah is truly a unique demographic animal.  Not surprising numbers for a centrist Republican from a brutally conservative state.  (My first impression of Utah: stopping in a Burger King and seeing posters of Jesus on all four walls.)

Olene Walker was more popular amongst Democrats than Republicans. And, sadly, much more popular amongst the general populace than the Republican convention voters who kicked her to the curb despite 80% approvals.
