What a horrible choice. I guess I would vote Taft just because he is an American.

Winfield, im guessing u gave every state to Taft because Chavez is a communist? If you havent noticed, Tafts approval ratings are so low that you would have to dig for them.

Taft doesn't hate America and thinks it should be defeated, Chavez does. That makes it a pretty big landslide. Chavez wins DC because they vote straight Democrat.

My predicted map,

Chavez - 55% - 401 EVs
Taft - 45% - 137 EVs

Chavez is elected and 2 months after he takes office there is a recall election in which Rudy Giuliani defeats Chavez by the following margins.

Giuliani - 91% - 523 EVs
Chavez - 9% - 15 EVs

I realize Taft has very low approval ratings, however, a character like Chavez could not win any states, even against Taft.

Tafts approval ratings would sky rocket if his opponent for the Presidency of the United States was Hugo Chavez.

Chavez is the founder of the leftist Fifth Republic Movement in Venezuela, and attempted a coup, which failed, in 1992.

During his Presidency, Chavez has been accused, credibly, of electoral fraud, human rights violations, assaulting democracy in favor of dictatorship, and political repression.

Hugo Chavez no longer wants to destroy America since the Constituion was amended and he an now run for President and reform the country (with congressional approval of course).  The election is tight as Chavez is the first socialist to ever be a major contender and the liberal vote pours out.  Chavez's reform plans empower liberals and scare conservatives.  Many people flee to Taft to protect themselves from "Communism" (which was often linked to Chavez in slander ads).  The West, South, and Libertarians vote for Taft in an "Anyone but Chavez" campaign.

The closest and most surprising votes occur in Ohio and Connecticut.  Ohio goes to Chavez (by a few thousand votes, only a couple tenths of a percentage point) due to Taft's negative perception in state.  Most Chavez voters cited "extreme dislike and distrust of Taft" as their top reason.  Connecticut goes to Taft due to an influx of economic conservative suburban voters.  They came out in unusally large numbers and gave Taft the state by 1,036 votes.

In the end,

Taft: 308
Chavez: 230

Turn-out would have to be incredibly low for this to happen.

I assume the 98-2% was an exaggeration, though.

At most Chavez would get 20% of the vote, and that's pushing it a lot.

Yes, more like 40%.  See my map.  Chavez was really trashing our conservative government and some aspects of our society, not the country in its entirety.  I really think he could do reasonably, especially against Taft.

There is no such thing as a recall election for a President of the United States.
A President can leave office in one of three ways, and that is they die, they resign, they are impeached.

Yes, I think we would have to make allowance for a greater non-Taft vote, I would say something like 80%-90% Taft, 10%-20% Chavez, tops.
