What was the most important year in American History? Our options:

1776-All of you know what this means

1783-End of Revolutionary War

1860-Most Important Elsection

1865-Civil War ends, Lincoln assasinated, Reconstruction

1941-3rd term for FDR, America joins WW2.

1945-FDR dies, WW2 ends, Japan nuked, Cold War begins

1968-Nixon's comeback, Veitnam War, Assasinations of civil rights leaders, etc.

2001-Again, you all know why this is here.

Other-Any other ideas?

Don't forget the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor for 1941, although I think you mentioned that when you said "America joins WW2."  What about 1963 (JFK's assasssination)?  I don't know what I would say, but probably, in order:

1. 1865
2. 1776
3. 1860
4. 1968
5. 1941
6. 2001
7. 1945

The year 1913 is probably the most important year of the 20th century. It began the Wilson Administration with all it's utopian visions. The Federal Reserves Act was signed and the 16th (income tax) and 17th (direct election of U.S. senators) amendments entered into the Constitution. The year 1913 was the high tide of progressiveness and after that year one could argue that it crested and ebbed.

I'd go with 1929, honestly.

1777,  1781, 1787 and 1863 are more important than many of those listed- I focus more on turning points than start and finishes.

I'll go with 1787 if pressed.

I'm with Patrick...
1776/7
1787
1863
1944/5

I'm not sure which one either, but would probably go with 1787 as well.

This was what I was going to post...

But failing that, 1607 or 1759.

1759 is important, but captured territory had been returned before at the peace table, so 1763 when the French chose to regain their Caribbean possessions instead of New France is more important.  Indeed, 1763 can be said to be the year when American History began.

None of these. My answer is 1930, the dawn of the most consequential event in modern human history.

I can't judge the others because I wasn't alive to experience them, but 2001 was the year that Americans lost their minds. It was like living in a Twilight Zone episode.

America still hasn't recovered from 2001.

I would argue for either of these:

1803 - Louisiana Purchase doubles the size of the nation and opens the doorway to continental expansion.

1863 - The turning point in the Civil War

1787. No Constitution makes quite a difference.

Only one of these years coincides with humanity finally achieving the means to, without fail, wipe out all existence on planet Earth.
