I entirely disagree. This isn't about "showing a thick skin", this is about a full on racist attacks perpatrated by sad people who cannot attack someone on substance. This is entirely out of line for someone, especially a supposed liberal talkshow host to say, let alone a President, as it is quite clearly incindiery at best to the Native Communities.

Warren never benefited at any point by her true or untrue heritage, and this is only an issue because she listed herself as part Native American for a silly office census or whatever.

I hope this will empower Warren to crucify these attacks on not only her, but all Native peoples.

Pocahontas is actually kind of fitting, due to her legacy with the one-drop rule. The First Families of Virginia at the time romanticized their connection with Pocahontas in the same way Liz Warren does with her "family stories". She didn't claim Cherokee ancestry to get institutional preferential treatment, but rather to romanticize her ancestry by evoking thoughts (to herself and perhaps others) of proud and mysterious people who lived off the lands hundreds of years ago.

It's fairly common for white people in Oklahoma to believe that they have Native American ancestry.
