Three main candidates are:

Nicos Anastasiades (from the conservative Democratic Rally party)
Stavros Malas (from the Communist Party which is actually the incumbent party in this race)
Giorgos Lillikas (independent supported by Social Democrats and Greens)

As of now, the race seems to be something on the likes of :
-Anastasiades : 48%
- Malas : 26%
- Lillikas : 23%
- Others : 3%

So it's a kind of left-wing razor thin primary that risks giving the right-wing a first round victory.

I'll be pessimistic, as usual, and predict a first round 50% + 1 right-wing victory. If not, I'll predict that the right-wing surpasses the left in the runoff.
In any case, I'll also predict that the social democrats will end up above the communists, cause that's the way things (nearly) always go, sadly.

Nicos Anastasiades actually seems pretty good for a right wing guy in cyprus, supported the annan plan and all.

Not in Cyprus though, the communists have always been the main left-wing party AFAIK.

Yep, but these things do end you know. In the 1970s, the communists had also always been the main French left-wing party, and look now...

They did that to themselves because they were (and are) useless.

Not entirely true, but partly still.

Anastasiades - 45.5
Malas - 26.9
Lilikas 24.9

Anastasiades underperformed what the exit polls said by a fair bit. Still, he's way up on Kasoulidis and Malas is significantly down on what AKEL usually poll.

The district voted:

Anastasiades - 46.2
Lilikas - 25.8
Malas - 25.7

So, I don't see why the "grad".
Best Communist ditrict is Larnaca (38-36 for the right against the communist).

The city of Limassol isn't communist, either.
Anastasiades - 45.1
Lilikas - 28.4
Malas - 24.3

"Limassolgrad" is because the city has a big Russian population (about 40%). Larnaca appears to be the communist stronghold in Cyprus.

Polling seems to have been remarkably close to the final result, albeit overpolling Anastasiades, but not by so much. Any idea if Lilikas' vote transfer to Malas for the runoff can be expected to be full ?

Cyprus election: Nicos Anastasiades elected president

Centre-right leader Nicos Anastasiades has won the Cypriot presidential election with 57.5% of the vote.

It was a comfortable victory over Communist-backed Stavros Malas on 42.5%. Mr Malas has conceded victory.

Mr Anastasiades takes power as Cyprus stands on the brink of bankruptcy, hit by the knock-on effect of Greece's economic woes.

He favours a quick deal with foreign lenders to finalise a bailout of the Cypriot economy.

"It is a clear and strong mandate for change, for reform, for our country to exit this vicious circle of crisis," Tasos Mitsopoulos, Mr Anastasiades's spokesman, told reporters according to Reuters news agency.

Jubilant supporters of Mr Anastasiades's Democratic Rally party waved Greek and Cypriot flags, honked car horns and set off firecrackers in the capital Nicosia as the results came in, said reports.

So another southern European country will now be torn apart by austerity. Great.
