No, for a few reasons. First off as it says the state is in a budget crisis, and this would be very expensive. Second, while I appreciate the idea of using technology to enhance learning I don't see how iPods are going to be used in that regard - what basis is the politicial proposing this working on? Has there been any study about using iPods to enhance learning? If not then it may just end up being a waste of money, and it may even end up having an opposite effect. Furthermore, giving it to students of all ages is kind of risky. The devices would be subject to loss and theft. I don't think this proposal would work out.

No, but I might like the idea of giving a computer to every child instead.

When you consider how much books cost, and how much time is spent dealing with missing coursework, printing off sheets, etc., I think with some training it would be less expensive in the long run.  It would have certainly made my life as a student easier.

My dream is that one day when you open a dictionary and look up "stupid" there will be a picture of the legislators who proposed this.

I can tell you how hard it is to have to do assignments with no laptop... Instead of what's easier, I can't start assignments most days until after work. Thank god I only go three days a week.

Oh, Milk... What the hell did you do with Neil Peart?!... Bring back your Rush references!!!!!!!!!!

The only things that will be brought into the school by these iPods are pirated music and hardcore pornography. Not that there's anything wrong with either of these...

Well, I'm all for encouraging music piracy.

My main concern is that this would be basically a corporate hand-out for Apple.

I agree, they could also use it for music/videos/games if they really want..

My dream is that one day when you open a dictionary and look up "stupid" there will be a picture of the legislators who proposed this.

That, or maybe this:

There are lots of stupid ideas out there.  Come to think of it, this is more stupid than lucy's hair-washing scheme.  Daria would have something clever to say about this?  Remember the little girl from that north Texas neighborhood where Beavis'n'Butthead lived?  She eventually got her own show.  Apparently her daddy got a better job and moved across town to a North Dallas neighborhood.  By then Beavis'n'Butthead was in syndication, and Mr. Anderson had morphed into Hank Hill with his own show as well.  Daria actually had lots to say about her school getting "the internet" and it was timely, given that the episode first aired in the late 90s.  Similar tune, though.  Same idea, different toy.

The United Negro College Fund says, "A mind is a terrible thing to waste."

Conservatives say, "money is a terrible thing to waste."

This legislation manages to waste both.  I no longer allow myself to think of what they're not teaching in school these days.  It's just too depressing.  Rather than making textbook publishers bank accounts fatter by purchasing ever-more-expensive and overpriced texts, it's going to Apple and Mitsubishi.  Somebody in the state lege knows somebody whose brother-in-law owns lots of stock in an iPod producing company, you can bet.  And it'll be fun when that person's identity becomes known.

If thee must know, I got it off a thing called the Disabled Students Allowance (a programme intended to help students with disablities or long-term illness to study on an equal basis with other students).

Seriously, though... iPods aren't necessary for better learning, but I can see where having a consistent piece of technology would allow teachers to work with their students better.  There has to be a cheaper alternative, though.

Why so rude? Seriously. Anyways, I was diagnosed with a pretty serious (though only rarely fatal) chronic medical condition about a decade or so ago (though o/c I must have had it for longer as it's probably hereditary).

do you actively get off on being an ass?  I mean, do you ejaculate all over the computer after making a post like that?
Since you are a dumb, let me switch to a green avatar to show you that my personality is not aligned with the views of the Libertarian Party.

I'm trying to make peace with Al the best I can.  I can only hope to end bad vibes.
