Much has been made of the Republican inability to appeal to Hispanics, but IIRC Hispanics have lower incomes than whites.

For example in 2011, per capita income was:
Whites: $32 673
Hispanic: $15 479

This leads me to believe at least part of the racial voting patterns in the USA are proxies for income. How do you think Hispanics would vote if they earned like whites?

In 2004, it's likely that all the difference in voting patterns between Whites and Hispanics could be explained by income. Things have changed since then.

How much of the current difference can be explained by non-economic factors?
