I remember reading he was in some Turkish anti American blockbuster.

Survival Island

Tell me: is Billy Zane a bad actor or does he just do it for the paycheck sleep his way through roles?  I've never been able to tell.

I thought he was good in Titanic.

It's kind of funny you mention Titanic; his character is similar in both films.

I think he owes the IRS money so I would think he just takes any role.  I remember reading he was in some Turkish anti American blockbuster.  I thought he was good in Dead Calm but that was over 20 years ago.

That would explain it.  And, yeah, Dead Calm was pretty good.

I've wanted to see Valley of the Wolves for some time too.  I haven't viewed the trailer, but the outlandish comparisons in some of its reviews have really piqued my curiosity.

Blood Into Wine

A very interesting and often humorous documentary.

Just saw it.  I'm still not sure how I feel about it.

I watched An Alternative to Slitting Your Wrist last night. It's a documentary about a guy who tried to kill himself, then when he got out of the hospital, decided to make a list of 52 things he's always wanted to do in the following year, and do one each week. It was actually quite a good film. It's uplifting without being saccharine.

Well I saw Black Swan. This was basically as Aronofsky said a companion piece to The Wrestler, though the style was more Requiem for a Dream. See it at a late night showing, a lot of the later scenes are quite horrifying and better later. Also this is probably the closest you will ever get to seeing Natalie Portman's tits (in a somewhat see-through ballet outfit.)

I sort of got the impression that the cast (especially Dennis Quaid) were aware of how dumb of a movie it was and were kidding around and not taking it seriously. Which is actually far better than giving a serious performance in a dumb movie (and makes the difference between a dumb movie that can still be entertaining, which Legion can be under the right circumstances, and one that is just bad.)

The problem is that a lot of the movie was actually pretty boring... most of the entertaining scenes were in the trailer (albeit heavily edited in terms of language/violence).

Oh I just looked that up, thought it was going to be about straight guys working as gay prostitutes.

I just watched Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, very nice.  I challenge anyone to say something bad about Philip Seymour Hoffman.

I also challenge anyone to say something bad about Marisa Tomei's tits.

I'm guessing that review didn't make it onto the DVD box.

We just watched Tron (the original) because I was incredulous that my boyfriend had never seen it. It was even more ridiculous than I remember.

Black Swan

Very cool. It had a lot of pretty berserk scenes as well as surrealism, lesbianism and even quite a bit of black comedy. How could one not approve? You could also basically guess what the ending was going to be like fairly early on but maybe that was the point.

It did well at my theater but nothing too amazing. It looks like it'll have about a $45 million dollar weekend.
