I could definitely see some of Ron Paul's views about the War on Drugs and civil liberties become more mainstream in the Republican Party (the latter is already almost mainstream), but I don't think his views on how large the government should be, nor his views on the Gold Standard, will ever truly become mainstream.

Calling the Obama platform a move towards "social democracy" is really unfair to social democracy. At best, it's leftist corporatism. Something far worse.
