Who would win the nomination if these were the 2008 Republican candidates?

I really do not know. I would put my money on MasterJedi (even though I am a prudish puritan who does not gamble Wink ).

Either MasterJedi or Jake. They echo the Bush administration without being too brash

As much as I like to think I'd win the Republican Nomination, I highly doubt it. Even with some of those candidates in the field. I would expect the race to come down to Supersoulty and MasterJedi.

MasterJedi, the most generic and bland of them.

Soulty and Masterjedi are the two mainstreamers (Thompson/McCain). Gporter is the Tancredo/Hunter of the race. If I was a fundie I'd be the Huckabee (except with a clue on foreign policy). Rockefeller Republican is more liberal than anyone else in the actual field. So much so he doesn't stand a chance at the nomination. AndrewCT is, hmm, Giuliani maybe. I can't say I'm very familiar. I'd expect Soulty to win the nomination; distance from Bush, social conservative enough, economic conservative enough, with foreign policy cred. Very McCain like.

Maybe in 1968 I could have stood a chance for the Republican Nomination but not in this day in age. I would say I would get alot of support in the New England area but get demolished in the South. When should I drop out? Wink.

A map of such a race would be interesting. I'd vote for Rocky of course, but either Jake, Supersoulty, or MJ would have a shot at winning.

Probably Jake, since he best represents the present-day Republican Party.  Supersoulty might be too populist and statist for some, and the rest are all too moderate to be in the good grace of the base.

ReaganRepublican (i.e. gporter) is not even to be considered....

How the hell is soulty populist? Not too long ago he was arguing against universal healthcare to me and basically said all we need to do is pass tort reform and everyone's healthcare problems will be solved.

I've been asked to do a breakdown of the early primaries here, gporter excluded.

Iowa: All candidates are actively campaigning for victory in Iowa, but the real race is between Jake, who gets across as the conservative Republican candidate and MasterJedi. Jake wins by 5%.

Wyoming: The Wyoming caucus is ignored by the media, and candidates such as Andrew, Conor, or Jake barely campaign. MasterJedi wins an easy victory with over 50% of the votes, Soulty takes a distant second and Jake places third.

New Hampshire: Although he campaigned heavily in Iowa as well, Soulty campaigned harder in New Hampshire, were he hoped he could carry the state with Independent voters. His campaigning proved fruitful, and with high Independent turnout, he carried it with 6% over MasterJedi, Jake, and Andrew. Conor gets around 3%.

Michigan: The race in Michigan is between the two front runners by now, Soulty and MasterJedi. Jake also campaigns here, but turns most of his attention to South Carolina. Polls show MasterJedi narrowly ahead, however he wins by 9% on primary day.

South Carolina: With Soulty by passing the state to focus on Florida, South Carolina is at play between Jake and MasterJedi. However, both have significant problems appealing to the Christian fundamentalist electorate, which splits almost evenly between the two candidates. Jake wins narrowly.

Nevada: MasterJedi and Soulty are neck-and-neck in polls, with Jake a distant third and the more liberal electorate splitting between Andrew and Conor. Conor has been struggling in earlier primaries to beat Andrew in terms of votes, Nevada is his make-or-break chance. On caucus day, MasterJedi squeaks out a win. Conor is still behind Andrew in terms of votes, but does not drop-out.

Louisiana: Like Wyoming, LA is ignored by the media but less so by the candidates themselves (except Soulty, focusing all forces on Florida). Jake actively campaigns in the state and results in an easy victory for him.

Florida: This is Soulty's main focus state by now, where he actively campaigns. However,  all other candidates are also active here. However, on primary day, Soulty defeats all other candidates easily, with 9% over Jake. MasterJedi places third.

Maine: With momentum from his convincing Florida win, Soulty easily defeats opposition in Maine, where Conor manages to place a decent third with 15% (ME being his home state). This score assures that Conor is not out just yet.

Super-Tuesday (won't go into as much detail as before)

Alabama: Jake

Alaska: MasterJedi defeats Soulty in a close race.

Arizona: Soulty wins Arizona.

Arkansas: Jake defeats MasterJedi and Soulty by 3%.

California: Soulty easily wins this delegate-rich state.

Colorado: MasterJedi defeats Soulty, while Jake takes third.

Connecticut: Andrew focuses most of his forces in his home state, attempting to win there. He is defeated by Soulty, who takes 31% but Andrew takes a good 29%.

Delaware: Soulty wins Delaware.

Georgia: An interesting race between Jake and MasterJedi, but MasterJedi narrowly pulls it off.

Illinois: MasterJedi, against all expectations narrowly wins in Illinois over Soulty.

Massachusetts: Soulty.

Minnesota: Soulty.

Missouri: MasterJedi defeats Jake.

Montana: (I have no clue here)... MasterJedi defeats Soulty and Jake in a statistical 3-way tie.

New Jersey: Soulty wins Pennsylvania's neighbor easily, with over 50%.

New York: Same as NJ.

North Dakota: Jake.

Oklahoma: Jake.

Tennessee: MasterJedi defeats Jake.

Utah: (I have no clue here)...  MasterJedi wins.

WV: MasterJedi wins easily.

Andrew, Conor drop out. Andrew endorses Soulty, Conor makes no endorsement and leaves the road open to an independent run.

Afterwards:

Kansas: MJ

Washington: Soulty

DC: Soulty

Maryland: Jake wins narrowly.

Virginia: Soulty.

Wisconsin: Huge MasterJedi win.

Ohio: Soulty.

Rhode Island: Soulty

Texas: Jake

Vermont: Soulty

Mississippi: Jake

Pennsylvania: Huge Soulty win

Indiana: Narrow MJ win.

NC: Narrow Jake victory.

Jake drops out after poor results outside the South. Endorses MasterJedi

Nebraska: MasterJedi

Kentucky: MJ

Oregon: Soulty

Idaho: MasterJedi.

South Dakota: MJ.

New Mexico: Soulty.

And now, I'm done for the day.

Cool! I'll note for the record that I did defeat Soulty in the primary game we had last year (don't remember if MasterJedi participated in that one).

Nice analysis Hashemite. Glad to see I endorse nobody and leave the door open for an Independent run Wink. Why do I drop out after West Virginia though? I thought I would have dropped out earlier than that. Nevertheless Conor Flynn 2008!
