Far left is a very odd term to describe that county and not at all accurate. Democrats aren't being seen as far left there, but as the more moderate choice as has occurred in many other places. The high level of education has already been mentioned but that is most certainly the main driver.

Romney only barely lost it to Obama, but DuPage would have even voted for Bernie over Trump.  (Interestingly, it backed Bernie in the 2016 primary.)

It's somewhat surprising that Romney wasn't able to flip it back, this is exactly the kind of county that was full of the demographic profile he was trying to court.

Romney just barely lost it. I think he would have won it if he wasn't running against the state's favorite son.
