I am going to assume you are eating green things when you are not "treating yourself," amirite?

So take us through the week.  What green things have you eaten?  And no, a Shamrock shake does not count.

Sometimes, I'll heat up a can of English Peas and have that a couple nights.  Other times, it will be a can of corn (not green, but still a veggie).  Occasionally, a can of green beans.  I usually add in some lean meat in there by frying a hamburger patty, not for a hamburger, but just as a patty of meat along with the vegetables.

You're welcome to have meat with your greens, pal. It's not like I just eat raw vegetables every night or heat up a can. Corn is fine, but remember, that is a carb and a starch, not really in the same class as green vegetables like brussel sprouts, asparagus, zucchini, field greens, broccoli, snowpeas, etc..

Frying a hamburger patty is fine as long as you are using lean meat, like 93% or something. Otherwise, it's full of fat and cholesterol.

Baby steps. I am trying to be patient with BushOK, given it seems like eating vegetables is foreign to him. I would be sick if all I ate was meat and potatoes and dessert!

I haven't learned how to steam fresh veggies, yet, so I take what I know how to do for the time being until I learn how to do more.

Roasting broccoli, asparagus, brussel sprouts, or anything really in the oven with olive oil and salt and pepper is a good way to start. Steaming them is boring and forces you to put butter or something on them to make them taste good. Olive oil is a much better fat than butter.

You can also boil any veggie. But only for a minute. You don't want them to get mushy. And corn is just like eating bread. Nothing wrong with it, but def not a veggie. It's a giant mutant grass, same as wheat.

Come on, man. Make cooking fun. Boiling anyone outside of pasta is boring, blah, put me to sleep type food. Roasting, grilling, anything is better than boiling, and it is imperative that BushOK learns this before its too late, and he is bored to death into eating burgers and fries again.

I do hope he is not merely opening a can and eating the contents out of it. If so, no wonder he is struggling. Eating can be fun and interesting, especially when there is thought behind your food. And it can be healthy for you too. BushOK needs to educate himself on these things, and he will be well on his way. Unfortunately, he can eat all he wants, but if he keeps eating crap, he won't lose anything.

I suspect (but am not 100% convinced) that boiling water is within Bushie's skill set. Roasting in oil may be too complicated Tongue

Step 1. Get steamer
Step 2. Fill water part with water
Step 3. Turn heat on hotplate up to maximum
Step 4. Chop vegetables, namely broccoli, carrot... sprinkle sesame seeds and garlic salt over vegetables
Step 5. Place vegetables into the steamer basket
Step 6. Steam until JUST cooked, ie, firm with a bit of give, but not hard.

It really isn't hard... plus veggies can be fantastic.

I'm looking forward to going back to work tomorrow.  I will be going to work from 6:00-14:30 tomorrow and Tuesday and will be going back to my 5:00-13:30 shift Wednesday-Friday.  It is Week 14 beginning tomorrow.  Wednesday also begins Month 4 at Xerox!

In the time it took you to type that sentence you could have gotten hundreds of recipes and videos on how to prepare a whole host of vegetables. Stop always talking about how you can't do things and find out how to do them instead.

Don't boil veggies, all the nutrients go into the water and you basically lose them. Also they taste bad. Just cut up some carrots or brussel sprouts or whatever, put them on a pan with olive oil, salt and pepper, and put that in an oven until they're ready.

How much sodium per serving is in these canned vegetables?

Probably quite a bit, but canned veggies are healthier than constantly getting junk food.

I'm about to leave for another day of work in about 2-3 minutes.  Its expected to be pretty busy this week, tapering slightly by the end of the week and into next week. A busy day, though, should make for a fast day.

How many cheat snacks did you eat with the Super Bowl? I had a lot of pizza and am in no place to criticize...
