Trotsky was somehow a political freelancer. Always on his own. Sure, he had a great popularity and a legend surrounding him, but unlike his less-celebrated comrades, like Stalin, or even Zinovyev/Kamenev, he never built his own power base.

After civil war ended, Trotsky had one pocket of power: army. Even if army was reduced and demoralized during a peacetime, it still could be useful tool.

However, Trotsky was a dogmatic person. When, after Lenin's death, friends urged him to simply use his soldiers to remove Stalin and co., he refused to engage in a "bonapartism". And rest is a well-known history.

Yay! Somebody noticed the grammatical changes. It flows much, much better. Don't you agree?

Hint: it takes place during the conversation between Eisenhower and MacArthur.

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner. Though I must correct you. It's Vladimir Smirnov.

For the record, "rn" looks a lot like "m", especially when put together in a word.
