On the plus side, Jim Gilmore is now tied with Rick Santorum -- a former Pennsylvania Senator who won more than ten states and was the runner-up for the nomination in 2012! #gilmentum

This has got to hurt.  Santorum is a serious candidate who expected to win.  He did very well in 2012 but fell short that year.  Now this.

I've never really understood why socially conservative and religiously minded voters (who obviously make up a big segment of the GOP primary electorate these days) didn't give Santorum a look in this year - sure, he doesn't have much money backing him, but he had the name recognition from 2012, plenty of congressional experience and is pretty articulate and authentic. Meh, guess it shows how much I know.

I'm guessing two main reasons:

1) They never really liked Santorum much to begin with, they just didn't like Romney.
2) Why settle for the old (Huckabee, Santorum) when you can have the new and shiny (Carson, Cruz?)

Social conservatism is dying in the party any ways, especially when young millennial Republicans are upwards of 40-50%+ socially liberal to moderate.

Santorum was never like that much to begin with... He only surged when Perry, Gingrich and Bachmann collapsed.

If any of you guys get polled, do me a favor and say that you're supporting me for the Republican primary. That way, I'll be doing better in the polls than a former governor of a swing state.

Out of curiosity, are you (pretending to be) running as a Republican?

I don't have the $5,000 required to file paperwork, and I'm 22 years under the requirement, but that's what write in campaigns are for.

Perhaps you could be Mark B. Graham's running mate, or vice versa!

Perhaps the questioners (or the voters) balk when asked to speak such a disgusting word. (I mean, ZERO?) Best I can come up with - you'd think he'd get a few surviving Mr. Rodgers votes if nothing else.

Who'd have guessed he do this badly two years ago? I figured he'd be in the top three again.

I think 1 is right on point. Santorum was a club evangelical voters used to whack Mitt Romney with, he wasn't really a beloved figure by those types.

As I've said before, there was a reason they only turned to Santorum after exhausting all of the other options (except Huntsman).

Also, Santorum isn't even an evangelical himself; he's a papist. I still find it amusing that the evangelical candidate in 2012 wasn't even protestant.
