"Fresh from capturing the House majority in 2006, Democrats are now targeting traditionally Republican districts," reports The Politico. "Two highly touted candidates announced their campaigns this week, suggesting the party is continuing to put Republicans on defense heading into the 2008 election cycle."
"Former Kansas City Mayor Kay Barnes kicked off her campaign Monday against Rep. Sam Graves (R-Mo.). Barnes was the first candidate who met with Rep. Chris Van Hollen (Md.), chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and Democrats believe her candidacy alone puts the seat into play."
And in Colorado, "first-term state Sen. Brandon Shaffer has told state party officials that he will run against Rep. Marilyn Musgrave (R-Colo.)."
