Not quite as economically liberal, but similar all the same.  Is there a viable US third party that reflects such views (ie: I don't view Communists as viable).

Kentucky Democratic Party ;-)

Haha!  Actually, Kansas Democratic Party probably fits just as well.
Sadly, neither party in NM really fits the econ left and social right (although moderately so on both accounts) positions I hold...so an Independent I remain... Sad

Kiki I like how you get three different avatar colors here on the Forum in that quadrant, reflective of the U.S. political situation.

We'd all be in Labour in the U.K., wouldn't we? Wink

Probably :-)

And as for my last post before I go to work:

Would Labour be happy with all of us in this quadrant? If so, which faction of Labour (details are always appreciated, since I don't know much more than Old and New Labour) would we go into?

My Quadrant is better...

scoffs at Al and WMS's quadrant of populist evil (al appears to be my mirror)...

and my quadrant would probably be the Liberal Dems...at least my end of it. (my octant?)

Pfft. You're in the soulless quadrant of libertarianism where they eat babies and the like. ;-P

Most Labour voters would fit into that quadrant. As far as Party factions go... there are a hell of a lot of them. I think you'd fit best into one of the more moderate Christian Socialist factions.

Thanks for the response...I've wondered about that. Any links to the more moderate Christian Socialists?

I was wondering if you would ask about that. As you can see in my post above, I think you and others in your quandrant would be a little offended by the not very wide selection of examples they chose to represent it.

Yes, you would be right about the example selection! About the only one of those that even sounds ok is the current Pope. I think the Political Compass doesn't like those of us in the upper left quadrant too much. Kiki

Probably a majority of Labour M.P's (and almost all of the Cabinet in fact) identify themselves as Christian Socialists, so there's a huge variation in political viewpoints... (everything from far left to Blair himself)

One of the annoying things about U.K politics is that use of the internet hasn't had anything near the effect it has in the U.S... I'll find some more sits out in a bit... in the meantime...

www.labour.org.uk (official party site, has links to affliated Unions and Organisations etc)
www.christiansocialist.org.uk (the main christian socialist organisation. Membership extremely varied. Tends to be somewhat pacifist (note: genuinely pacifist not the whole trendy "anti-war" thing. There's a difference) although not all the members are. Nice people as a rule)
www.frankfield.co.uk (the only M.P's adress I can remember right now... he's an independent minded old git and one of my favourite M.P's)

Thanks for the links Al! I'll take a look at them and see what they have to offer...

Amazing to see most of the democrats are more socially conservative than I am.

Yeah for a while, you had me and BRTD beat!  Guess that didn't last long.  Still, you give the GOP a lot more credibility because you're not an evangelical nutjob.

*eyes twitch*

All Christians are not conservatives, nor are they all Republicans, nor are they all born-agains, nor are they all evangelicals.

All born-agains are not conservatives, nor are they all Republicans, nor are they all evangelicals.

All evangelicals are not conservatives, nor are they all Republicans.

All Christians, born-agains, and evangelicals certainly do not follow the extremist nuts Robertson, Falwell, et al.

Stop being such a leftist bigot about people of faith, will ya?

I thought you were better than being an A->B therefore B->A person Sad

Err, what? I'm criticizing Flyers for making the assumption that all evangelicals are "nutjobs". I'm pointing out that not all evangelicals are the same, not all born-agains are the same, and not all Christians are the same. And I'm saying that *he* is acting like a leftist bigot on religion. I'm not saying that *all* leftists are anti-religious bigots.

So, what's your concern then, ILV?

So, what's your concern then, ILV?

To me, he seemed to be indicating that nutjob was describing evangelical rather than them both describing what bullmoose is not, so it was more like 'Bullmoose is not an evangelical who happens to be a nutjob' or even 'Bullmoose is neither evangelical or a nutjob' rather than 'Bullmoose is not a nutjob like all evangelicals'.

(Oh, and he did not mention born-again once, silly Smiley)

Ah, a difference in interpretation. To me, he seemed to be explicitly linking "evangelical" with "nutjob", thus triggering my reply. And obviously someone as socially [far Wink ] left as bullmoose is not likely to be an evangelical, although there are liberal evangelicals - as was indicated in that Pew Religion Survey I posted a link to a little while back.

(I know, but born-agains are usually linked with evangelicals, even though they are not necessarily the same, and occupy an intermediary position between 'Christian' and 'evangelical'. So I decided to clarify matters Smiley )

*gasp* WMS, you'd better watch it; you're now less moderate than me on economic issues. Wink

Already mentioned that before.
Wink

But if I average the two Econ scores, I get -1.63, so I'll still be just a tad more moderate than you. Cheesy

does anyone on this site actually register as a economic left and social right (populist) as accoriding to this scale?
