I'm going to try being straight edge for a week

Just because a lot here said I can't do it and then I have a problem. So I will.

Starting tomorrow and thus running through next Monday. I have a show next week on Tuesday so I'll be done before then. I also have a show on a Saturday but at a venue I tend not to drink at.

So here goes.

The only time I drink on St. Patrick's Day is if I'm going to a show, which I'm not this year.

And last year when I did I ordered an orange screwdriver.

I believe you can do it.  I've done it for three months (quit smoking pot in December, haven't drank since 2020) and I feel amazing.  Believe me brother you will feel like a new person the longer you do this.

That's a good point.  I don't think of my lifestyle as "straight edge" by any means.  I'm just. . . . . .sober, I guess?

I made it.

I wasn't that difficult, no serious withdrawal feelings or issues. Some mood swings but that can happen anyway.

So now I'm free to have fun at the show tonight.

So ever since I got back from Milwaukee on Sunday I've also been straight edge...I'm not even trying, just never got the urge to have a drink or take an edible. Something I realized today.

I'm not saying I'm going to commit to that full time or quit those altogether, like I'm not saying I won't drink at the next show I attend (although that's not until next week) but it's nice knowing there's no real dependency, and I can probably return to the way I was pre-Covid in terms of use of such things.

I think you should try doing this for a somewhat longer duration before you conclude that there's "no dependency" here.

Please do not go out and beat up Punks who are enjoying a cig or a beer at gigs, which some straight-edgers actually did in Dayton Ohio when I was going to college nearby back in the early '90s.

In many scenes there was an undercurrent of violence from Straight Edger's back in the dayz, especially in certain parts of the country which was totally different from more of the West Coast Scene where "Drunk Punks" and "Peace Punks" would frequently overlap at many of the same gigs, and NOBODY was attacking fellow punkers because they smoked cigs or buds or drank or even dropped acid or shrooms.

The only fights happening at or around the gigs in my days was either interpersonal, or when we had to defend ourselves against "Nazi-Punks".

Hopefully we won't have to defend ourselves against BRTD as a Straight Edger in the future at our gigs!
