Why are the Palestine protests suddenly blowing up now rather than at other points in the last several months?

Why are the Palestine protests suddenly blowing up now rather than at other points in the last several months?
Russia is trying to exploit America’s divisions over the war in Gaza -
The effort includes artificial intelligence, fake social media accounts and a spike in state-sponsored Russian propaganda.
(NBC News, yesterday)
Quote
Russia is seeking to exploit America’s divisive debate over Israel’s offensive in Gaza through overt and covert propaganda, with the aim of aggravating political tensions in the U.S. and tarnishing Washington’s global image, according to two sources familiar with U.S. intelligence on the matter.

In its ongoing information war against the United States, Russia has shifted its focus in recent months to the Israel-Hamas conflict, seeking to inflame existing divisions in the West and to portray Washington as fueling the violence, the sources said.

The effort includes artificial intelligence, fake social media accounts, a long-standing tactic used by Moscow, as well as a spike in propaganda from Russian state media. The sources declined to share examples of Russian-generated bots on social media to avoid revealing U.S. intelligence-gathering methods.

And from two weeks ago:
Secret Russian foreign policy document urges action to weaken the U.S. (Washington Post)
Quote
n a classified addendum to Russia’s official — and public — “Foreign Policy Concept of the Russian Federation,” the ministry calls for an “offensive information campaign” and other measures spanning “the military-political, economic and trade and informational psychological spheres” against a “coalition of unfriendly countries” led by the United States.
“We need to continue adjusting our approach to relations with unfriendly states,” states the 2023 document, which was provided to The Washington Post by a European intelligence service. “It’s important to create a mechanism for finding the vulnerable points of their external and internal policies with the aim of developing practical steps to weaken Russia’s opponents.”

It's not that we don't have protesters and political divisions in the United States. But they are being amplified and magnified by people and power that want to see the United States in chaos.

There was a planned nationwide day of action for the destruction of the Jewish homeland on April 15 where professional activists blocked highways and airports across America, including SeaTac here in Seattle, causing hundreds of people to miss their flights.  This was all still in the news and all over social media on April 16 as you had the predictable day of condemnation and/or defense opinion pieces and plenty of coverage of the police arresting protesters and then protesters being let out of jail by progressive DAs and celebrating.

Then on April 17 Columbia's president testified before Congress on anti-semitism at Columbia and what she was doing to prevent it.

The combination of these two events was what apparently led student activists to create their little protest encampment on the Columbia student commons, because it was a perfect opportunity to get maximum media attention.

The media attention led to a lot of copycats at other universities.

Might be something to do with what Israel is doing in Gaza.

But they've been doing it for almost seven months now. If anything I would have thought there'd be more sympathy for Israel after Iran attacked them.

That was kind of a justified response. Israel nailed their embassy on purpose.

Why is everyone so black and white about everything?

It's very clear that there's multiple things at work here

> are people upset about Gaza? yes
> are there also forces at work to try and cause more chaos in these situations like in the 2nd post in the thread? yes

Are you not black and white on issues when it's against your interests or just in this case? We have your whole posting history on file for reference before you answer.

It’s spring, protesting in the winter is unpleasant. These protest will likely weaken over the summer and get new life in autumn, unless the war is over by then.

Why are these threads suddenly blowing up now?

Because people here is mostly Gen X and older Millennials, and have grown up with American support of Israel being completely dominant in the public discourse, and it’s shocking to see that dominance being rocked.

I think people are ignoring the obvious timing of the matter, these protesters probably think that they have maximum leverage at the end of the semester. I’m not sure it’s much more complicated than that.

Simply put, because Israel's been blowing up Gaza to hell and back. People aren't supporting Hamas or the October 7th massacres/ atrocities by doing so, but they're justifiably feeling revulsion at the extent of Israel's arguable war crimes in civilian killings

Add to that our general political polarization, a general distate that young people have towards Biden ( they were never going to support him anyway).

Young people don't want our tax dollars funding genocide, it's that simple. You people can blame TikTok or Russia or whatever all you want, but contrary to Atlas’ smug beliefs, young people aren't stupid. We have eyes and see what's happening in Palestine, and we know that our government is directly contributing to it.

Follow the money.

Quote
At three colleges, the protests are being encouraged by paid radicals who are “fellows” of a Soros-funded group called the US Campaign for Palestinian Rights (USCPR).

USCPR provides up to $7,800 for its community-based fellows and between $2,880 and $3,660 for its campus-based “fellows” in return for spending eight hours a week organizing “campaigns led by Palestinian organizations.”

They are trained to “rise up, to revolution.”

Quote
The radical group received at least $300,000 from Soros’ Open Society Foundations since 2017 and also took in $355,000 from the Rockefeller Brothers Fund since 2019.

A RICO investigation and subsequent prosecutions are appropriate, given the damage, disruption, and diminishment of safety for Jewish students on campus that has occurred.  These demonstrations were planned, funded, and had the desired effects of their funders.  And let's ensure that those who committed felonies during the demonstrations end up with felony criminal records.

We fund countless tyraniccal Governments around the world. China. Russia. Vietnam.

China committs the Uyghur Genocide. We don't have massive protests demanding Universities divest from Chinese companies.
